Why are the mats so hard to install?

It's probably just me, but I find the mats hard to install. Ok, so I probably shouldn't have tried to install it when it was 20F out at night, but I had a flashlight!

In the end, I only installed one of the tabs for the front driver seat just to make sure it doesn't move out of place when driving. Don't want to cut any more holes in my shiny new Fit, that was the most painful part. I WAS supposed to remove a piece of insulation, right? That's what the instructions said.

its really not that hard.....but i would say 20 degrees was the perfect excuse.
because i wouldnt even be touching my car at 20 degress! really simple thing to do...but hey you had a good scenerio.

its okay. i saw some girl at the gas station having a hard time filling up her car. because she didnt know how to remove her gas lid.

the tabs should be close to pre cut. All you have to do is finish the hole.

the front passenger was precut on mine all the way down -= but the drivers side was only cut through the "carpet"
i was pretty nervous too like please dont touch the gas tank!
i left all the layers as a little tab to cover the hole
i gave up/didnt attempt to mount the back one besides only the right one gets attached? what do they not care about the mats messing with the drivers seat airbags sensors?

o and yes i admit at first i put the back in the front and front in the back
(bc the fronts are sooo small comp to the back)

I installed all four of mine with tabs (first mod to the fit) ... Get a good utility knife and use the directions and guide and you should be fine...I did mine in about 20 minutes. It is a little nerve racking to cut into the floor of a brand new car But even the rear is already partially cut for you. Just remember to cut small you can always go bigger. I still don't understand why they do not have tabs on the rear driver side? hmmm

idk -- it could be that there is less room under the passenger seat bc the tank higher, maybe it would press against the sensors, where on the drivers side the mat would just go between the floor and the sensors

Hey Tin!!!!

NICE!!!! Friggin thrilled you used the bearFit for your avatar! I think some upgrades like 17" paws and tail tuck would be tight! Definately go with an aftermarket arm and leg set up to properly drop that mammal....drop it so that its belly scrubs....

Its hard doing anything @ 20F especially at night with a dying flashlight (just say its dying )

There is a youtube video on how to do the install...from like a honda dealer (college hills...err something)

i did mine at 20F in darkness... seriously. and i put all the hooks
on mine. the rear passenger side i only use the one hook towards
the rear of the car because the front part catches the seat rails
and was not moving at all.

what you guys need is this... free up your hands when working on
your car. i have the dual LED's on each side version (probably their
older version). i use it all the time when working on my cars.

I usually use my camping head light, but it ran out of juice.

oh..that kinda sucks. if you use that safety glasses i show, one side's
LED is bright enough to illuminate your work 99% of the time. you can
use the other side as back up.

LOL this is actually the reason the dealership I bought my car from will NEVER see me or my money for any kind of service or maintenance. I go to a different dealer/mechanic now and they treat me much better.

Their "install" of the all weather mats basically meant placing them on the ground and placing the clips in the pocket of the trunk. (nice work you lazy bastards at Family Honda of Santa Ana, CA)

If they aren't willing to do the work for the floor mats and install them properly, who knows what else they might skimp on. Maybe I'll go there for an oil change and they will not change the oil and leave it in the trunk as well?

It gave me an icky feeling--installing those floormat hooks. Especially when having to cut away that insulation. Even with a sharp knife the stuff came out of there like a dog chewed it up! I recall one side the insulation was precut and just popped out like a pair of marshmallows. That insulation foam is really soft. Why on earth those clips arent put there from the factory is beyond me. Still was well worth it. Shudder to think what rug would look like after a Western New York winter without all season mats. Another related thought, I really would have preferred the rear mats to have gone over the middle hump. You really want as much of that werid felt rug to be protected as possible.

YA know what????........

IT JUST HIT ME.... (tell me what you guys think)
when I wast test driving the fit months ago (two out of the 6...yes I test drove 6) I think I broke the plastic mat holder tabby thingy, one of the times it made me slip! I am injured so that was bad...salesman had to ask if I was ok... he had no idea what happened I felt so bad and guilty that neither time did I say what I did ...dont be hatin ppl, I think its cheap and easy to replace.

A now that I have owned my fit for a while (and I dont want to break them) I sometimes stummble getting in when I touch them.
Since the tank is right under the seats it takes away some leg room for getting in and when sitting. I hit those tabs all the time. maybe thats the reason for it being optional? whuuudooooyaaa think?

my 01 Civic had the black metal posts but that probably would not be a good choice in the Fit...
I bent the one in my moms Quest and that was a freakish accident (but funny...no she doesnt know ) I would imagine I would have permanently bent them down in the Fit if they were metal and pinned in place

-I have 2 in my left front
-2 in my right front
-2 in my rear right (the upper one is in....but the rear most one was put in the wrong place apparently at the dealer so I just took it out, it doesnt even fit the hole)
-and none in the left rear

hows that for variety?....
