Was starting to get my Alpine all set up to install, but I cant get it to mount flush with the kit. I think it looks pretty bad, wish it would flush mount. This is the Metra kit from Crutchfield.

that's what it looks like installed. The metra kit has that kinda indentation and sits pretty deep. the scosche kit however contours downwards so it looks a lot better.

can you take out the bottom part and just fit something else flat in it's place that is at the same depth as the HU?

got the same kit and radio.. you could use the metra trim and it'd look better.. but the face would hit.. i didn't like the kit either and went to ebay for the scosche.. haven't installed it though..

Yeha the face does hit if I used the Metra trim, I tried every possible way and it just doesnt look good at all. And I actually kinda like the idea of the storage pocket, so really dont want to lose that. I already won a scosche on ebay, will probably be here before my Fit is at the rate the dealer is moving in slow motion!

Guess I got lucky; my Kenwood works with the Metra trim ring, and though it maybe isn't as slick as the Scosche, it still looks pretty good. As for the pocket, it's a great addition to the dash, but why they put holes in the back of it is a mystery. Make sure to seal those if you decide to keep the Metra kit.

Good point about the holes, that is pretty silly. Luckily Crutchfield has an easy return policy, be sending it back pronto.

How much did you pay for the HU? Just curious, I was selling mine a couple months back and I couldn't find any used units going for more than $150. When I paid far more for it less than a year before.

Looks ok to me. But then I'm a cheap/easy date that wouldn't know any better. Seriously if it's not stabbing me in the eye...its fine.

I bought it new a little over a year ago for about 300 if I remember correctly. I got it right after this particular model came out, its the CDA-9887.

I didnt actually mount it that way, but it certainly did not look like it would flush mount even using that method. The trim for the Metra kit gets in the way of the face.
