We needed a riser for the dog crate so that the front gate would open without hitting the lip in the back. Also wanted some space for grocery bags or gear etc and not have it slide around.

We built this custom piece and upholstered it in black duck cloth.
The bumper piece is cut out of a Zeta stainless bumper guard with the edging remounted. The black bumper applique was more functional with the dogs but we liked the look of the Zeta stainless, so we did some modification and we're really happy with the results!

I had a scrap piece of plywood left over from making shelves to hold cases of wine for display at my store. Duck cloth is a semi-water resisitant canvas material. They make boat shoes out of the material. We have a large fabric department at our Wal-Mart. We paid $4.99 a yard.
