Subwoofer Decision

MTX Sledge Hammer SLH-T8512-D
or
http://www.dealercostcaraudio.com/08vs12l72.aspx

the amp is a orion hcca monoblock thats modded and put out a little over 4000 watts rms into 1 ohm on the bench so power is of no concern

ive just read a ton of audio forums and cant decide which as the two adire 12's in the back need to go to give me some space in the back

price is also of no concern if someone has another sub to suggest that can handle the kind of power im going to throw at it

That's a lotta sub for the little Fit. Are you planning on sound deadening too? Between the two I'd go with the Kicker. It's cheaper and the RMS is the same.

i used dynamat....grew up in a family owned stereo shop....
only reason why im using the overkill amp is im not buying another one or rewiring the car...im looking more for info on BL Xmax SQ type responses...also trying not to go with a sub that will require a huge box...the two adire 12's are in a huge box tuned to 32hrz....takes up the whole back end and weighs over 200lbs...i need space to put a fold up stroller for my daughter and those two boxes are small enough ill will still have space to put it back there if I am driving that car for the day
also considering subs from audiopulse (TC Sounds) and RE (Resonance Engineering)

I would not reccomend buying anything form Dealercostcaraudio.
Ever.
I purchased a sub and amp from them about a month and a half ago and i waited for tracking numbers from them for 3 weeks before i called and they kept saying that they were waiting on the item to be shipped to them, and after a month i gave up and asked for a refund, they said fine and cancelled my order, however its been a month and a half and i havent gotten my money back. they are sketchy business people whom i will never do business with again.

I was just putting links up for example....
I actually buy my equipment from an audio wharehouse company in san jose called Hitron...they are for dealers only and require a resellers lisence....basicly those subs will cost me less then half of what dealercostcaraudio will charge me and no tax
I already picked up the kicker L7 setup i posted above from them yesterday...this weekend I will swap it for the 2 adire subs and see what I think....first time I have ever bought a kicker product and we will soon see if its the last kicker product I will buy...usually I dont buy low end equipment like kicker...but a friend who owns a stereo shop down south convinced me to try it

Half price huh? You wanna get me that powered sub I've always been wanting?

My mom has a wholesaler's license. I wonder where I can go to use it.

im putting 2 10'' kicker cvrs in my fit this weekend. they were in my jeep and those things sounded wonderful. thats one of the higher ended kicker subs. go for it. but b4 u do, check out some memphis, eclipse, and orion subs. also check ebay for them. you can get them brand new from an authorized dealer with the manufactures warranty for half the price. mtx is good, but very overpriced in my opinion.

As much as I love MTX speakers, you really can't beat Solo Baric's. They are cheaper and easier to work with I've found. I'll be putting one 8" L7 in my wife's Fit as soon as we get it.

I would go Kicker, is always a better sub than MTX. I know the first square solobarics that were coming out had problems with ripping in the cone, but it is like 8 years later and it should have been addressed by now.

The only thing I found with Kicker is to run about 10% under the rated RMS, you will still get clean power that will stomp the hell out of similar subs that use more. If you run them at exactly the rated power I find the voice coil goes in about 6-12 months. (Although I ran only the comp subs)

I ended up with Alpine R-Type subs after going through most of the brands, I still think they are one of the best subs out there to date.

...although I always wanted to try out the Cerwin Vega Stroker series subs personally.

And what electrical system were you planning on using? Not the Fit's. You should go with smaller power, more efficient design.

Considering the fact that the fit ECU will limit the alt to 100amp output you won't get all that. And why are you putting caps on a digital amp? That just doesn't make much sense to me. When you manage to make this setup work with that amp for an extended period of time with out breaking either the amp or fuses constantly you let me know. Cuz you DON'T have the power for it.

a true 4kw amp would pull somewhere in the neighborhood of 400amps i'd imagine. I know that amp probably doesn't put out that much or pull that much. Besides even if you had that amp gain turned all the way down and it was putting out close to 4kw you couldn't put a 750watt sub on it. Specially not crap like the L7 or Thunder series MTX. Shit i doubt their "true 22" could handle a true 4kw. I know the Kicker solo x can't.

Edit: If you want to play with the big boys you need to bring better names than MTX and Kicker to the table. Just sayin

the amp when we measured it was about 79% efficient...the rail voltage is about 53 volts... 4000watts / 53volts = about 76amps
i would imagine the amp pulls somehwere around 100 amps
If this was an old mosfet class a or class a/b design amp it would pull about 4 times that
i got an old pyramid 200 amp power supply from my fathers old stereo shop that has an amp draw meter on it....i hook it up to that and find out the actual draw
