Lightbulb Silver Door Handles

Anyone notice those interior door handles you can buy online for the 1st gen fit with the silver handles? The prices I saw for them were $60-80 USD. However you can paint them yourself for much less. If you know a little about painting and you do it right, they look fantastic, like they came from the factory.

All I needed was a few grits of sandpaper, 120, 400, 1000, some masking tape, primer and paint, (about $20-25). I just took off the handles, sanded them down with 120, cleaned them up, masked off the rest of the handle (kinda tricky). Applied 2 coats of primer, sanded with 400, then applied 3-5 coats of silver paint that matches the silver accents in the interior. Between a few of the silver coats I used the 1000 grit to get a nice smooth finish. Very happy with the result and much cheaper than buying them.

JA

Looks great. Paint the handle but before then add dry carbon vinyl for a sick effect.

What about the paint rubbing off, you know, like my wifes friggin jewelry and my 4 year olds knack for destruction? I'd like to do this as well, just worried about those things. Think it could hold up sort of well?

this would look good with the exterior handles to match the Fit emblem on GD fit sports!

you know, you could take apart the latch handle that you are painting apart from the bezel that you are masking off.

there is a prewinded pin on the back that you can pull out and the thing comes apart. so you dont need to mask, and you could prob paint it back too.
