Double din DVD player suggestions
Double din DVD player suggestions
I was seriously considering just hooking up system to the oem radio, but after a lot of consideration I am probably going to be getting a double din, mostly because I liv the style of them. I have found a few that seem to be pretty nice, but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.
I do have a few concerns. A friend of mine has one but it sticks out kinda far, which in my opinion looks like crap. I also don't wantto spend a grand on a deck. I was looking to maybe try to get one for around 500..
Anyone have any suggestions?

I really love my Pioneer P3100DVD. It cost me 450 (from Crutchfield) It can be had for less if you are willing to track down and purchase all the stuff Crutchfield gives you for free. The screen is just the right size IMO and the fact that it doesn't have a motorized face was a HUGE selling point for me. The sound and adjustabilty are second to none, extracting excellent sound from the crappy OE speakers. I also like the front USB port for using thumb drives to hold my music. I don't use an Ipod so don't have any comment on those. Do yourself a favor and perform the parking brake bypass, which enables movie viewing with the car moving, my six year old loves this more than anything. Also the volume control is a separate set of buttons on the side of the touch-screen, saving you the future problem of one side of the touch-screen looking like a welcome mat at the local whore-house. Hope that helps!

the 3100 is the one that i was looking at getting actually. i have every intention of making it to where i can play dvds and drive.. but how hard is it to that? ive installed many cd players but never a dvd player.. i was kinda thinking about just bringing it to the local shop to get it installed but i think i can handle it.
i saw that someone on here had the 6000 and was interested but its discontinued soo...

The 6100 is better in that is a 6 disc changer, but worse in that it has a motorized face, which I have a well earned mistrust of. If you like the larger screen and don't mind the motorization you can't go wrong. The bypass is supposed to be easy, but I had some trouble until I bought a pre-assembled relay bypass from a place called Audioadapters.com . That worked like a charm and I have had zero issues since.
If you were looking at the 3100 pony up the extra $100 and go for the 4100. google the best deal. I was in your boat before I bought my 4100. The larger screen is worth it. Also, you don't need to go for the full 6100. Who needs a disc changer these days, do people still listen to CD's?
Also look into the bluetooth module add-on and the iPod cable is a must have. It's actually like the USB link that came on the 2009 sport model fits and it comes with an extra extension you plug in to go from USB to iPod. This gives you the option to just plug a USB flash drive in if you don't use an iPod.
You can't go wrong either way, just don't spend the money just to get a 6 disk changer built in. Afterall, this isn't 1998.

The disc changer is more useful as a DVD changer than CDs. Especially if you have kids, as they never make up their mind which movie they want to watch. It is nice to be able to toggle between movies without ejecting/re-inserting discs. I learned this the hard way with mine. I'm not ripping out the 3100, just passing along something that I learned after the fact. And the 4100 is a better deal over-all, I agree....

Budget isn't an issue.. I don't feel like the bigger screen is a big enough deal to sell me in the 4100.. Ordered the 3100 yesterday and hopefully I'll have my system all hooked up in less than a week..
