Coming soon! DIY Auxiliary for Base Fit

It has already been done on the Australian Fits. Here is the link to the installation guide from the Aussies (http://ausjazz.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=56). I am planning to do the same thing but without the RCAs. I prefer the stock look of the Sport model and I don't want any cables dangling. I'll be mounting the 3.5mm female in the same location as in the Sport model For the connection between the auxiliary port and the 3.5mm female I will be testing the CD-ROM to sound card cable. If that does not work I will fabricate a cable to plug into the back of the factory headunit's auxiliary. Hopefully I will get the parts by the end of this week and have it done this weekend.

Good luck and be sure to let your fellow base owners know how it goes and know that it is possible!

Can you post a digital picture of the back of the head unit,
as well as any information as to who makes it, if available.

So does the AUX connection to the head unit look like the
ones on CD-ROM/SPDIF to sound card connectors?

If not, then I guess the Honda parts department should sell
replacement parts for such cables (at least for the Sport), correct?

Ok, the aussie mod will not work on the headunit. The connectors in the back are different. Sucks! I took a quick peek at the aux for the 2006 Civic and it seems like that won't fit in the headunit. Now I need a schematic of the headunit in the base Fit to see if I can still fab something to make it work. Otherwise, I'll have to wait for a double din faceplate and upgrade! I'll have pics up soon.

That's a bummer, but thanks for trying anyway. Maybe down the line there'll be something to make it work. I mean it can't be much different than the sport model stereo, can it?

(Thanks anyways... I just went to my local computer shop and bought myself
a 4 pin CD-audio cable/SPDIF hoping that you'd get back with good news....)

Why don't you call your Honda dealer's part department and
ask them how much the parts are for the cable from the
FIT SPORT head unit to the FIT SPORT AUX port (on the console)....

They should have those parts available for when some FIT SPORT
head units get stolen and the cables get yanked out.

Last resort for me would be to get the IPOD Music Link for my Ipod...but it would be nicer
to use an AUX port.......so I can use my MiniDisc.

I'll write a little DIY on how to remove the headunit once I get the chance.

Aux in for Base Fit

Yeah, I'd be interested to see this. I have the parts for MusicLink on order, but the more I read, the more I would rather just have the Aux-in jack.

Smeister,

After looking at the the pictures, I found an adapter
which plugs into the right-side 14-pins (5-3-4-2) to give an RCA AUX ports:
Soundgate SNHOND3.
http://www.logjamelectronics.com/sounsnhond3.html

Also I found a PDF: http://www.discountcarstereo.com/pdf/honasx.pdf for another product
which plugs into this 14-pin.

Sweet! I am going to look over the pins real quick to make sure it is the exact one and I'll let you know. Thanks for doing the research FitCustomer!

If only someone had the diagram of the harness for the aux I could probably wire my own 3.5mm female socket instead of buying the Soundgate SNHOND3 that runs around $100 plus shipping.

Does anyone have a HELMs manual that may show the harness connections?

Happily, my first post

Attached are some diagrams that will be very helpful. The came from Paul at College Hills Honda - very helpful.

Pin Layouts

Pin inputs and outputs

Auxiliary Jack inputs and outputs

The six center pins on the 20-pin jack are what you're looking for. You should be able to make individual wire connections to each pin. What parts did you order? Are you creating your own auxiliary jack or did you order the replacement jack for the fit sport? There is a civic adapter set that terminates in a six pin harness - I wonder if this would fit the six pins on the 20-pin connector on the back of the radio.

Let me know how it goes. I've had these diagrams for a while and have been searching the net for the photos you just posted of the fit base rear of the radio. Thank you. I hope to do the mod very soon on my own fit base MT.

Good luck.

So, is it my understanding that the Base Fit radio does not have the Aux Jack inputs, or they are different than the Sport Fit radio's?

That is incorrect. The rear of the Base Fit radio has the AUX input, which is connector B in my previous post diagrams and the grey jack in smeister's following image with letters "AO" (above it if the image was flipped):

Gabes Dad you are the man! I am purchased the 3.5mm female plug and I just need to follow your diagram now and connect them to the right spot. Sweet! I'll take some pics once I get it done. Hopefully, that will be this week. Thanks again Gabes Dad!

Metra sells a 20 pin radio harness as part number 70-1722:
http://www.metraonline.com/_assets/m...NST70-1722.pdf

Metra also has the 17 pin harness as part number 71-1722:
http://www.metraonline.com/_assets/m...NST71-1722.pdf

But these plug into the vehicle harness, not the radio.

One other part is Metra #71-1721 which plugs into 2005 CIVIC radio, but doesn't look
like the pin rows are offset as in the pictures above.

What are you going to use to connect to the 6 pins (in the 20-pin input)?
