'11 steering wheel modification ???

Hey everybody. We just bought a new Fit base '11.
Here's my question. Has anyone successfully removed the plastic "mesh" that found in the 6:00 position of the steering wheel? We want it out, so we can stick our fingers inside the "V" that is created by the wheel shape.
Can you envision what I'm talking about?
Please post here if you have ideas or have done this before.
Thanks!

Hammer and a wood chisel.

Make sure only your fingers go in there

Despite taking the steering wheel apart, that thread never shows the mesh separate from the silver bezel surrounding it.

But, if you go to Bernardi Honda's parts site... and dig your way to the diagram of the steering wheel, you'll see the mesh is part of a much larger chunk of plastic... so it's inseparable.

Hence, the only way to get it out is to cut it out, and that doesn't need taking the steering wheel apart.

Sure I can envision what you are talking about.

But I agree with Goobers on this. I think removing would mean cutting it out. Which depending on your luck, skill and confidence with a dremel...I could envision either great happiness or great unhappiness at the end of the project.

To me? The advantage of being able to poke my fingers through an empty space in the wheel would not be worth the risk of potentially screwing up the entire steering wheel. Which I personally really like.

But I'm pretty conservative that way. If you do embark on this project. You may be a pioneer. Take pictures of either the triumph or the disaster.
