Depinning wiring harness

In a bit of a bind ATM, need some assistance.

I'm trying to do this:
https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/2nd-...-controls.html

I'm not modifying the radio harness, only the harness by the clockspring. I have two of these since I have the old cruise control buttons in a completely separate assembly. I can't get the old pins out of the harness to reuse in the new ones. I've watched a few videos on YouTube and it just doesn't seem to work the way it should. I can't tell if I should be applying pressure on the pin from the lock hole, or trying to pry underneath the surface and pull it up, but neither way seems to work.

I don't want to have to pull the car apart a third time to do this so I'd really like to get it finished tonight. Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
