Willow Springs Raceway 02/09/2008

So I was having a falling out with the Fit... It was too slow, wouldn't be fun if I modified it, was going to sell it, yada yada yada...

Then I took it back onto the track and pwnd. Best unofficial time (one of the UCI guys with a Nokia) was a 1.50. Enjoy the pictures- mostly all action oriented and lots of good shots of myself and Huy (sleep_deprived) in the silver.

This is what you see on the way up to Rosamond at 4am... Pretty cool I thought.

I call this picture "Living the Good Life" this was inside the gates of Willow Springs, where apparently you can live. Cool stuff.

Huy and I.

Huy believes in preparing his car at the start of the day. I just drove up, aired up the tires and went to town.

Liked the car, a 240Z racecar. The driver just happened to give this conquistador-esque pose when I aimed the camera at him.

E46 M3. They're pretty and it's nice to see them out on the track instead of just sitting in traffic like the majority of them do...

5 Door party! That 5 series held us all up. All day. By the end of the day I decided to just dirty pass him at turn 6 (after the Budweiser Balcony, cresting the hill, for those of you who have been to Willow)

One of the nice things about NASA events is that they also hold their races the same day. Here we see a pack of skittles that was dropped on the track. Others call the Spec Miata race cars. Taste teh rainbowz.

Again, during the NASA race, the Honda Challenge cars were out. This is one of the new California buddies I met from UCI, John, in his H4 Civic EX. He won $25 that race.

Here's Huy busting out of the pits like a bat outta hell. He was got the Fit up to at least 30 miles per hour before turn one. Damn.

Some guy brought out his NISMO 350Z and actually drove it on the track. kudos to you, whoever you are - the car looked great out there.

Huy and Duy, exhausted after the earlier picture of the raging pit exit.

Another nice thing about Willow Springs, other than it being awesome, is that there is a skid pad up in the hills where kids can play around and drift.

Of the runs I watched, this guy was the only one making some serious slides and smoke.

Here's yours truly, coming into turn one at around 100mph (not bad for the little guy)

And finally, that's me again, going into turn two.

So there you have it, more proof that the Fit can do track days. I had my instructor cheering within the first session and now he's a believer in momentum racing. Just so all of you know- the red Fit (mine) is completely stock, with the exception of a the wheel/tire package and the Bride seats. Proof that you guys can get out there and do it too! So if you ever start to doubt the Fit, just get it out on the track and you'll be surprised when you pass a Fox body Mustang, a GT500 Mustang, a 5 series, a Spec Miata, and so on and so on...

Word to Big Bird. I'll gladly impart some of my skills to ya. Next event is March 21-22 (Friday and Saturday) at California Speedway. Allegedly there will be many Nascar antics as we have part of the oval and the infield. I plan on going and hopefully we can get some more of you guys out there!

Yes, the Fit stays. I actually talked to Ben and we have some big plans for the little car.

On the subject of the SoCal track day, let's all go to the March 21-22 event at California Speedway! I'll start up a thread in SoCal and see if I can get you guys to bring the cars out to their (un)natural habitat!

Fantastic....Good show!
The Fit is addicting.....

...what did Diesel think of your run?

How did the brakes feel, was there a bunch of fade? Or did it still give a
bit of confidence?

As soon as I physically can I would love to "appreciate" my fits handling...hahahaaa

Diesel spent the day at the spa, so I don't think he minded at all haha.

As far as brakes, I've done three track days, driven hard on the Tail of the Dragon, driven hard on the canyons of California, put 14500 miles on the car and they are just barely showing signs of wear. In short, wasn't much an issue.

Oh and I only used the brakes at turn one and five. So that probably helped too!
