i plan on doing my front and rear wheelwells with some rubberized undercoating. have you thought about replacing your headunit? that's my only audio mod and OMG did it make a difference.

Ya, I almost certainly will at some point as well. I have had to budget fairly well lately and the audio setup just hasn't been in the cards with getting my powder coating off the ground.

I got laid off about a month ago and I am going to try hard to make a part time business out of powder coating then just get a part time job somewhere I think.

Haha, I used to own a detailing business so I go all out on the crevices of all of our cars at least a couple times a year.

 

Another new addition to the powder coated part list. This is a weighted shift knob from one of my other vehicles. I re-tapped the threads and coated it "Tuscan Matt Black" which is a flat black color.

Haha, Mine might be a little smaller. I think it is 2" in diameter.

 

Well after a full season of autocrossing my Subaru I have decided I am going to race my Fit in H-Stock next year as well as go to a few local track days. Stay tuned for updates of the limited modifications that can be done for that class.

I also have some more powder coating to be done in the next few days. I will try to get that up.

 

I did manage to do a little powder coating work today.

My stock battery tray was starting to bubble and generally look pretty rough. I took it out and coated it and the bolts and hardware mirror black to match my other engine bay pieces.

For everything I coat I use 80 grit Garnet or Aluminum Oxide.

A lot of people theorize that silicates from glass bead can cause a buildup that will effect the final quality of the product. For this reason, I have not tried them.

I also do not use sand as blasting with it can cause Silicosis. I have no interest in getting that.

I feel 80 grit gives me the best blast profile to keep the product looking great and give my powder a good amount to 'bite' into.

 

So even if we want to clear them #80 Al ox. will leave a smoooth finish to c.c. I thought I"d hear soda blast from ya but your the man on this sub.

To be honest I thought you were just planning to coat them. If you plan on reclearing them I would try to carefully hand sand them but soda blasting would actually be the way to go in that situation. You will want something really really light if you are trying to minimize the reclearing or polishing process.

I thought you were just planning on powder coating them. Sorry for the confusion!

Doing a little bit of slight work to a couple of the parts before I put them in tomorrow. I added some grip to the dead pedal tonight.

Here is the regular Zeta dead pedal:


I took skateboard grip tape and cut a strip just wide enough:


Trimmed up the edges and here is the final product:

 

Got my parts installed today and did an oil change as well.

The oil change came up first and was a major pain. The previous person put the oil filter on stupid tight so I had to pull the old mechanic's tricks out and punch a screwdriver through it. (Friend borrowing filter wrench )

I noticed the drain plug was very rusty so I decided to do something about it. I tried scrubbing off the surface rust first, but that was not adequate for me.


So into my blast cabinet it went. Came out looking acceptable.


A quick coat of primer.


A few coats of Satin Black.


I put the plug back in and wrapped up the oil change with a Bosch filter and Royal Purple oil. (Had some laying around from another car)


Next up I changed the paper filter out for the K&N Filter. It was in great shape when I received it used, but me being anal I decided to clean it some more.

Here it is as received. (Pretty Clean)


I cleaned it out again and the water looked like this:


Oiled the filter and installed it. (Paper filter next to it)



The last thing in this post was the installation of my Zeta Dead Pedal. I don't have any install pictures, just the final product.



I also installed my Password: JDM carbon intake manifold cover. I am editing those pictures now and will have one or two up shortly.
