Laguna Seca

Had a blast at Laguna. Point by's from S2000's, S14, STi, '69 firebird and that crazy R5 Turbo2 that was limping along.

An instructor from the track said i should just supercharge the L15, rather than go K20 for now. He felt pretty certain the extra 30hp would be enough to catch me up in Solo 1 and 2 to most of the pack while focusing on my driving line. I was faster through the corkscrew and Rainey curve than many of the BMW's and most of the S2000's, but much of the track is a horsepower game.

Highlight of the day was a compliment from the 600whp 996 Turbo. Ridiculously fast through the course (165mph on the straight!), but in the 3rd session in turns 8-9-10 he said the Fit was on his pace!

Looking forward to more, after the supercharger.

Naw Special, you're too hard on yourself. Curtiss was a very good driver, and he said he was shocked by how well the Fits did. If you look at Curtiss' other posts, he's been tracking cars for a while.

Most of the cars out there had a 150hp advantage, and still several people stopped by to see the Fits. One racer said he'd bring his wife's Fit next time.

With maybe another 50hp, the Fit will hold it's own, and still be far cheaper to run than most.

haha thanks, im just a little hard on myself cause i know i could of done much better. Like with everything though, I can take a lot away from this and prepare myself for the next track day.

I really wanna do laguna again in a faster car, I feel this track is very horsepower demanding

I was talking to that one guy whose wife has a fit too. And yea so many more people came around to check out the fits than those to came around to check out my friend with his m3 and my bros 330.

I think the Fit performs better when it's closer to stock. Like running shocks & springs, a sport seat, and rims that's a bit wider with some decent street tires like RT615/R1R/RE11/AD08 etc etc. I had more fun with my setup before until this season.

I guess I just created too much traffic in the last event at Pacific Raceway. I keep trying to get my lines & braking points perfect but STILL these Porsche/Elise/NSX/STi etc caught up really quickly. I've been running with an old member up here who's got a 92 base civic hatch with D16Z6 swap gutted interior. He just kept pulling away from me bit by bit, corner after corner.

The Fit is tooooooooo freaking heavy and there's only so much potential with the rear solid beam! My other friend from Mfactory's got a same 92-95 hatch with SOHC motor, 5lugs & full cage and it's 2135lbs(about 970kg?). I think mine is at 1250kg-ish even without the back seat! Oh well maybe the weight bothers me even more after I got my performance box timer

Debating, if I should go get coilovers plus turbo/supercharge, OR even stop doing the sport for a couple years & start another project later, even a SOHC civic setup like these guys.

If I turbo/supercharge my car, yup, I can probably catch up on speed a lil easier on straights. But once I get around the corners the guys' gonna come right up on to my butt or pull away like no tomorrow. And obviously, car/part aren't gonna worth much $ when I try to sell.....

For a track like Pacific Raceway/Laguna Seca, we need something lightweight with 1.8L+ motor if possible IMO. U guys are lucky if u can afford another Miata or something similar.

^^agreed^^

Laguna was too hp demanding to really have fun. I thought about picking up a miata or something but realized I would have so much more fun on two wheels

Well I guess it's alright to run with a weak engine. But it's gotta be lightweight & got good potential on suspension. Like a sohc EF or EG civic/bmw e30 3series/miata etc are all good choices coz they're so light & doesn't run POS drive-by-wire throttle. That weaken the response on the already weak engine when we're running uphill at Pacific Raceway/Laguna Seca even more!

PLUS there's a lot more alignment settings that I can play around with on those cars....

oh hell muthfckin yes!! I was kinda pissed when I found out i couldnt camber out the front more than -2.0 and couldnt do anything to the rear besides putting in washers/shims... -_-

in the end though, i realized why i have this car though. I wanted a economical daily that was "pretty" fun to drive. Had i known that I would get into road racing it, I would of gotten something else. But hey, how many people can say they can take pretty comfortable naps in their "racecars?" hahaha

Yeah...I guess I just get to this bottle neck with my car. I guess I really should go down to another track like Oregon raceway park & try it out. Explore a little more.

Too bad thunderhill/buttonwillow etc are all over 1000km+ away from me.....
