Dual Rate Progressive Springs - Japanese Speaker Needed
Cburri, when you get these, and you get your car fixed, (hopefully soon on both counts) I'd like to take a ride/drive. Dublin is nice and close to Live-no-more. Hopefuly someone figures out a regular source for them soon.
ciburri and I have been corresponding about several subjects lately including these springs. He offered a test drive to me which I accepted. I will hear from him when/if a spring set arrives, but he is really busy with work issues and other problems. So, if I don't hear about it otherwise and you tie up with ciburri to test the springs, let me know with a PM or something and I will come up for a "Mini-Fit Meet" and buy lunch for everybody. Based upon ciburri's past comments on the dual rate springs, and assuming that I can get their effect with around a 1" drop, I
WANT the springs. But a test drive in advance of purchase would be absolutely great.
you caught me in the middle of going down the Google search page, e-mailing every single vendor that lists Kg/mm springs regardless of the application! The more I am being denied, the more determined I am on getting them!
I thank you so much on your efforts! If everything works out on getting them to US and my fellow Freaks test drive my car you are looking at some added pressure to bring some more! I will gladly spend my money through a fellow FitFreak member than anybody else that replies claiming that they can get them. Bird in a hand and a bird in a tree is not the same even if a bird on a tree advertises for $174 shipped!!!
Everybody, might be premature, but you are invited to test drive my Fit back to back once I put them on, no if's or but's! I will drive to Los Angeles in upcoming months as well, so feel free to post or PM me if you would like me to hit you while I am there as well. It would be great if fellow Freaks with any aftermarket springs would get together with us, so we can all test drive each other's cars back to back and document comparison and impressions. Beside butt sensor, we can secure half filled sealed water container and observe ripples in it over the bumps. Just an idea. If anybody has any better one, please post it.
For now, I will take pleasure looking at a picture of an installed rear Kg/mm SS spring on a Japanese GD3 I snagged of some bloke's web page!LOL!
jbrison, hit me through PM once you have details sorted with your Paypal address. Once again, thanks a million! I owe you big time.
WOW!!
LA Freaks, how great is this? With the hundreds of posts regarding spring comparisons, this thread may set new standards in Fit suspension customization. For drivers like me who have not committed to various brands of springs already under discussion for whatever reason (I don't want drop, just better spring performance), this brand adds another dimension to the suspension and another option to consider (assuming that we have a non-rip off source).
Thanks for starting this, Ivan! And thanks, too, to jbrisson!

Will do. I can't remember exactly when the shipment will be here, but I think he said next week. I'll take a look at it. PMing mods now.
Edit: As soon as I can find one...

Thanks, but I won't bother them. I just searched around and saw the Non-Vendor Group Buy rules. I think that'll work. I didn't want to become a sponsor just to sell a few sets of these because it's not something we carry, and because we normally don't deal with the Fit. When the next Fit comes out, we'll be site sponsors though, I think.
Any new info???
jbrisson, were the springs shipped? ciburri, have you received them yet?
I would really like to test these before buying, but if more sales are necessary to get an order processed, I may risk my money on a set without a test.
Please advise--
Thanks,
Dave

Ciburri and I decided to approach Progress Technology in Anaheim. They did such a good job with their rear anti-sway bar for the Fit, and already make lowering springs for many cars including the Fit, we thought that they might be interested in developing dual rate springs.
So I contacted Joey Berry, Progress's inside sales rep. He responded right away, and wanted more information. So I forwarded ciburri's email that has photos of the springs that he has used on both his Acura Integra and later used the same set on his CRX. He offered in this Email to send this set of springs to Progress for them to test their value and superiority on similar cars that they would have access to. I also sent Joey the link to this thread so that he would have ciburri's complete description of the springs and their performance.
My suggestion to Joey was that if his company was interested in making such springs, they would have a large market with the Fit and other cars to make the springs in two versions: stock height, and lowering springs. I will wait until next week to call Joey on the phone to press this issue.
Joey's email reply to me had one other exciting comment (that may negatively affect their desire to develop this kind of spring):
Progress Tech. intends to have full coilover suspension for the Fit in early 2008. Obviously, the development of this kind of product takes time and resources, which may make the company unable or unwilling to develop a line of springs that would simply compete with the coilovers.
I will post any new information as it comes.
Well, I hope they do go for it since it is a type of spring that would work for us looking for comfort as well as handling with minimal lovering. Coilover shocks could only benefit from these springs.
I have them on height adjustable (groves and a C-clip) Koni Sports. Unlike all other lovering, performance and racing springs I tried on Koni's and OEM shocks, these springs were the only ones that gave me traction on rough road surfaces in the canyons and increased speed through those corners anywhere from 10 to 20mph! That is a huge increase on a car like CRX with extremely short wheelbase. Increased confidence felt stupendeous at the time, but it worked! Cars were not a match in the canyons. I was dicing with bikes around Rock Store on Mulholand.
Springs like this could retail as high as $400 while coilovers regardless of what springs they are paired with can't be less than $800 for crapy quality set. There is a definately a market and room for them in Progress line up. The only question is if they can stretch their resources for development. If they do, it will open entirely new market for them for all cars without any competator in sight!
One can only hope!

That would be awesome!! I love my Progress rear sway bar. I'd be happy to jump on something that improved both handling and ride. I'd looked at the killer bee setup, but it sounded more performance biased than I was looking for. I was looking for somethign to take the edge off the jiggling over expansion strips on the freeway, but still kept or improved the sporty handling.
More bad news:
Progress is not interested in developing dual rate springs. They claim that their current springs for the Fit provide a better-than-stock ride, and offered me a "killer deal" on a test set, but I declined because all that they make for Fits are lowering springs and I don't want to lower my car.
Progress could and does make springs with varying spacing between the coils (progressive springs) but cannot copy the Kg/Mm springs that have varying wire diameters in the spring coils (the varying diameter provides the dual rate- smaller dia. = lower rate, larger dia. = higher rate).
Maybe some other spring maker might try to make a dual rate, non-lowering spring for the Fit, but it isn't likely. Those of us who want better ride at stock height are stuck waiting for a choice of coilovers or choice of struts/shocks from after-market sources.

Plan B!
Dave, thanks for the update.
Bernardio switched his OEM springs with Progress ones, so his OEM's should be laying somewhere in his garage. I'll check with him, since he lives close to me and works even closer! We run into each other couple days ago. He was in his EVO. Nice, very nice car. I do not won't to waste time pulling my springs out just to take detail measurements.
I'll start researching dual spring (cup car) set up options from reputable spring makers first, since air bag suspension looks pricey. As we discussed during a meet, dual spring set up might not be possible for safety reason on the back of the Fit, since shock is not going through the spring. I just do not know, but I will find out. It might take a while, but I will find out.

Hey. Ivan,
Thanks for the reply. I hope that you are successful in your research with other spring makers, but I'll bet that you will get the same disinterest as I got from Progress. It seems that the market for lowering springs is much larger than the market that includes the smaller number of us who are looking for a soft ride on the freeway with high springs rates in hard turns.
Thanks also for your interest in my two suggestions of roads for a Fit Meet Cruise in the S.F. South Bay.

Sorry for bringing back an old thread, but I maybe able to get these kgm springs over to state side. I have a buddy at Mainland China, and he is willing ship parts over to the US for his business.
So the question is, who want them? I just need to message him to see if he can get his hands on these bad boys
