question about rubbing
question about rubbing
hey guys I have a question about rubbing. specifically I want to know if my tires are going to rub when I drop it. I should be recieving some tanabe GF210s in the mail soon. My rims are a 16x7" with +42mm offset. My tires are 205/50r16. I wish that I had went with a 45 but it's too late now. Anyway, do you think this setup is going to rub and if so, what can I do to fix it?
There are lots of threads about this exact topic; but long story short you are going to rub like crazy with that setup
Run a seach on a few of the threads under "Fit Shoes"
There are a couple of different approches ppl have used, see which one works best for you.

I dont think it would rub "like crazy". You might rub on big dips in the road.
I have 17X7.5 +40 with 215/40 tires on stock suspension and there is only rub on BIG dips going like 50mph in the rear. It's really just the tire hitting the lining.
Plus aftermarket springs are stiffer. I'd test your setup out and if you don't like the drop then send those gf210 my way

Thank for the info tuna. In your opinion, do you think it will rub with every day driving or just when I take a steep driveway or hit a big dip in the road?
I'm probably going to test it out once the springs arrive. If I don't like it then I will sell them on here at a good price.

215's and a +40 offset!!
haha, when I say rub like crazy, I mean the same as Tuna. Big dips, hard corners, large cargo loads. Also, depending on the tire you run it could be a small problem or a big problem. Some tires are larger than others.
When I first got my 17's (with 205/40), they had a +42 offset, I rubbed in the rear. I shaved the bracket, even cut into the fender a bit, but nothing worked.
So I switched to 17's with a +45 offset, POOF! No rubbing in the rear, I was super happy.
Then I got my GF210's.... instantly I had a major problem in the front. I was rubbing bad
Way worse than when it rubbed in the rear.
Then I switched out to 195's, POOF! Problem fixed
Anyway, lightly loaded you can probably get away with it. I always have stuff in my car and like 4 people so I had to get it fixed.

I think I'll be okay then... I rarely drive anyone in my car other than my g/f and all 5'2" of her weighs very little. I travel a lot for work but again, all I'm carrying is myself, a suitcase and a laptop. Hopefully I won't have much of an issue. I like the aggressiveness the 205/50s give but I'm definitely going for a 205/45 next time. I wish I could take the tires back!
