Megan Street Coilovers
Megan Street Coilovers
Hey guys i'm doing research on some suspension because I know when I get my fit, modding will be inevitable.
I ask about the Megans because its what I have been running on my tracked S13 without problems, and my subaru before that. I have been very happy with Megan products and was wondering if any of you fit members have experience with them on this specific chassis.
Also, while I was looking at the coilovers I noticed the fits suspension is different than a lot of passenger cars with the rear having a seperate coil and shock design? And I also noticed that there is no front camber adjustment, i'll go research what you guys do for camber now because I want to be tucking some low offset wide wheels.
Thanks for any input guys!

on stock set up 35 offset is pretty flush.
i dont know how low you want it but i have megans and they dont tuck anything but 17's.
i like my megans but if you want to go low skunk2 would be your best bet

Thanks for your input, I definitely would be dumping it and I understand the megans are limited in that area (even for the S chassis.) I would be running 16" wheels.
I'll look more into the skunks but would rather have the more dampening capability of the Megans. We'll see.

skunk 2 have 12way i believe but for dumping on 16's megans only sit right at the tire all the way around
Is there a review thread for them on this forum?
here's a review.
i have the skunk2 coilovers. i really like them. id reccomend them to anyone. my grandparents went on a trip with me. lots of highway, some bumpy roads and even an unpaved gravel road. they didnt complain. they ALWAYS complain.

I've been tracking my Megan coilovers for well over a year without any problems.
Don't hate on them because its the cool thing to do.

Don't know about the Megans, but i've had the T1R Bmax coilovers and i'm currently running Skunk2's and i run canyons constantly, so here's my review:
If you want a lot of feed back from your tires, I'd get the T1R's. The moment I put the Skunk2's on it felt like my car was whispering to me what it was doing. Sometimes it got so bad that I found myself thinking that the car was over steering when it was still gripping, causing me to counter steer towards the outside of the turn. Potentially disasterous. My friend owns an RSX and he said the same thing about his S2's.
But not all's great and dandy on the T1R's. The piston rod on the dampners are really thin, if you canyon a lot or track it where the pavement isn't always even, you may eventually bend the rod and there may be trouble. Same thing with the endlink that connects the coilover body to the front sway bar. The S2's are noticeably more beefy, making the T1R's look rather anemic.
I'm not really into a ton of adjustments of dampening. Give me click by click adjustments where I can feel the difference and not a million clicks for me to feel it. My T1R felt like I had to sit there and adjust for an eternity before I realized that I had turned too many clicks whereas my S2's were 1 click represented a significant enough change where i can notice but not so significant where I found myself yearning for a point between two clicks.
For the way I drive, both coilover's spring rates are too soft (6k/6k for the T1R and 8k/6k for the S2's) where I'm constantly hearing tire/fender contact during hard cornering. note: I don't dump my fit either. She's sitting with about two fingers space btwn tire and fender.
As far as ride quality goes, don't be fooled by S2's small number of adjustments. Going full soft makes the car feel like soft, but not so soft that you'll be bobbing up and down like a cracked out clown. With the T1R's, you can get to the same ride quality but it takes more work finding the dampening setting with all the available adjustments. (if you haven't realized yet, I'm lazy)
Both coilovers allow you to drop the car so low that you're practically driving on your frame. So you can go with either if the looks are all you're looking for.

Thanks for your reply, really nicely written.
I will definitely be canyoning the car occasionally so thanks for the review between those two.
I'll look more into the t1r's but after seeing a comparison shot of the megans and the skunks, the difference in size of the shock bodies is definitely noticeable.

I would personally go with the skunks,or buddy club over the megans
but I also know a few people with Megan coilovers and they have had no issues,Megan has gotten alot better over the past few years and is in no way an "ebay product."
and just ignore anything solbrothers says, all he does here is talk sh1t about stuff and push the rcautoworks pipe on a flange axleback.
