Skunk 2 coilovers

Question. I just installed the Skunk 2 coilovers and the install was straight forward. But when I took my car out for a drive, I feel my car shake when I'm accelerating, and the driver side kinda pops when I turn hard.

I wanted to know what length do the sway bar end links need to be?

And i used the instructions from JHPUSA and Skunk 2 install paper.

im assuming that you havent gotten your alignment done yet. that should solve most of the vibrating. as far as the popping, its probably cause theyre still breaking in. my set made alot of noise for the last couple of weeks and theyre slowly going away. i also set mey damper settings a little closer to soft so its quieter.

also, during my install, i damaged my CV boot on the passenger side so my car vibrates still after an alignment. that could also be your problem. but i would get an alignment first.

Yea, I haven't got my alignment done yet. So what in feeling is normal? Like when I'm physically foot on the gas my car shakes until I roll in neutral, or let go of the gas. Has this happened to anyone? I took it on the freeway and went up to 70mph, still same feeling.

yeah, i would get the alignment done asap then go from there. i was told that you should get an alignment done any time you take off the 2 big bolts that connect the strut and brake assy.

sounds like alignment. As far as the popping... lift up the car and make sure everything is set right. There had been a few people who had installed the top hats wrong and had similar noises. Did ur axle pop out at all during install? could be the bearings not sitting right as well.

my passenger side axel popped out during the install. we were able to get it back in, but its still vibrating. i took it to the dealer and they want me to get a WHOLE new CV boot assy. for BOTH sides and its going to cost $1200. yeah, thats not going to happen. would you happen to know what needs to be done to check the bearings?

you have to open them up and set them properly then close it up. Its hard to do it on the center CV boot, but the one nearest to the tranny is easy.

Alright. Well my top hats are secured. Is there a certain length the sway bar end links need to be? Also just to clarify only when my foot is on the gas I feel my whole car shake. But when I let off the gas it's smooth.. Sorry for the repetitiveness. I will get an alignment soon!!

Really? Of course its the alignment! Does anyone really think they can replace the suspension on their car and have it come out to specs?
If you can afford to buy coilovers you can also plan on taking your car to a competent shop THE FIRST THING after you get your car back together unless you wanted to purchase a set of tires too.

If this were a PC, I would say, since you are doing an upgrade and not an "emergency" replacement, try going back to old parts and see how they work out.

This, being a car, and more importantly, the suspension system... Makes things a bit more complicated.

If it were me, I would eyeball things as best as I can to see if I can figure out the problem. If it's not the alignment, it could be beneficial to fix it first... but ultimately, the alignment needs to be done.

Speaking of which, I should get my alignment done (at least the front) since I did my Swift spring change.

Thanks guys. It's a been 3 yrs since I had coilovers. My last car I didn't feel this shaking, so I just wanted to make sure before I spent money on an alignment and waste money. See where I'm getting?! But anyway thank you all for your input. Will keep you guys posted..

getting an alignment for a lowered car is something you need to do unless you have money to burn on tires after tires.

So I got my alignment. But my car still shakes when my foot is in the gas. I will take out my suspension and take one more look at everything. I think it's coming from my driver side. Could it be my sway bar hitting?

This is an easy fix. Shouldn't cost you more than a few dollars. First, do you know how to remove the axles? If you do, remove them and take a pair of dikes(cutters) and cut the metal clamp holding the cv boot on. After you slide the boot down, check all the bearings to make sure none fell inside the boot. If they did, simply put them back into the joint(you'll know where they go once it's apart.), make sure the joint is now tight, and slide the cv boot back on. You can use zipties to resecure the boot. Just make sure to pull it extremely tight. I had to do this, because no one had cv boot clamps that fit.

Also, make sure the bearings have plenty of grease on them. Also do not let dirt get inside the boot.

Usually if it only vibrated when accelerating its the inner cv joint if it popped out and when u put it back in turned.to so that its not in the location it has worn into.there will be excessive movement causing a shake or vibration when accelerating
