Coilover Comparison: KW vs. Ohlins vs. Skunk 2

Hey so I've been doing a lot of homework the past few months but before I make any further decisions, I figured I'd ask what people on here are using, what they like/ dislike about any of the above.

I'm driving a 08' Fit Sport MT, love the crap out of it, but want to be able to tweak my set up so my canyon road cornering is a little bit more enjoyable.

Cheers and I'm stoked on any/ all feedback!

KW and Ohlins are the choices. Skunks have been discontinued for some time now. The KW or ohlins are both great choices.

What are the up's and downsides of the Ohlins and KW's?

Maybe they stocked a set and havent sold them yet?

Up's for KW and Ohlins is that they are definitely better. Downside is that they cost more.

I've read that with the Ohlin's the rear's are non-adjustable... functionally speaking though, what does mean for the overall ride adjustability?

I'd go with the Ohlins, no concrete reasoning, just know Ohlins as the best on the planet.

I'd take KW over Skunk2 every day of the rest of my life.

Skunk2 has earned the nickname Junk2.

Ohlins for no other reason than street cred attached to the name, no concrete reasoning like Mike

Read the description of any super-high-end sport bike... they ALL have Ohlins shocks... If Ducati, Aprilia, Bimota, MV Agusta and BMW are all using it, there's clearly something there... and the FIT basically is a goldwing with a shell and a couple of extra wheels...

wow.... OK, these were clearly a special order item, with sampeningto be matched for custom spring rates. See this is an EXCELLENT option for someone like me who is driving the car competitively, regularly... but as with anything top tier and custom order... the sticker shock is gonna hurt lol

any suggestions for someone who isn't driving their car competitively, period? I want something adjustable so I can play around with it... but now I'm kinda willing to hold out until I can spring for the Ohlins (pun intended)

That will depend entirely on what you want out of the coilovers (how low? how comfortable? how much money). There are a lot of threads on here discussing different coilover brands, take a look around for reviews.

Protip: type site:www.fitfreak.net + your search criteria in Google to get better search results than using the site's internal search engine if you're not used to using site-based searches (you will get a lot of weird results if you're not specific)

Willing to splurge, want to bump up to 16" wheels so not too low, and super comfy through hairpins (I do as much canyon and mountain pass driving as I can)

I'm pretty good at internal site-based searches but that's a solid tip for google, I can't believe I haven't been doing that for years.. If i could rep+ I would

Cheers

Having a budget able to splurge on something like the Ohlins is great.... but I think those would be to aggressive for what your asking.. Just my .02

For what your listing, canyon carving, drop but not too far, and "comfort," especially if you have close to $2000 as your budget, I am thinking that the KW V2 is going to cover your bases the best and it is a reputable company. These will take time to dial into the right ride height and damper firmness and in my mind should be corner weighted to be at 100%.

Again, just my .02

^^^what he said. sounds like you're in the same boat as me (but with more cash). the ohlins are overkill for a DD no matter how "spirited" your driving (and as a Fit owner in the land of pickups and SUV's, I am a very spirited driver). KW is a solid reputable brand, and you can use the extra cash for some other Fit-bits.
