Brakes

How do you measure the rotor thickness on the Honda fit? I was going to do it old school, using coins and a tape measure, but there is a cover on the inside of the rotor that won't allow for you to put a coin (or any other tool) inside.

I'm due for pads and probably rotors, but I wanted to check before I went and bought rotors. Unfortunately, I don't know how on this car.

There is a little window on the side of the caliper through which you can see the thickness of the pads. Service limit is 1.6 mm but I don't think I'd let it get that thin.

I just bought some grease for my caliper pins and brake shims. Man is that stuff expensive. Just spent nearly 40$ for some caliper grease and Honda assembly paste (m-77)

If you will change the pads, I would go ahead and change the the rotors. It's not worth to have them machined, IMO.

micrometer or thickness caliper. Any visual means is not even close to accurate.
Go to harbor freight, lowes, home depot, etc and get one. while youre at it get an OBDII checker.
You can visually check if the faces of the rotor are scrateched, grooved, or otherwise damaged and need replacement.

PS quarters and tapes are not old school; don't even come close to qualifying.

Guarante you the service limit is not 1.6 mm; its more like 11.6 mm and measuring with caslipers or micrometer is only way to measure rotor thickness.
