I’d like to put some alloy wheels on my 2012. There are lots of different 4 x 100 bolt patterns out there from different OEM and aftermarket manufacturers. My understanding is that stock sport wheels have a 42 mm offset.
I have seen ads for OEM replacements from 38 to 45 mm. 2005 factory alloys from the Honda Civic are 45 mm offset. Would I have any problem running these wheels?

There are thousands of threads on this. Please do any amount of reading.
That will fit easily, so long as they clear the brakes.

Thanks for the curt reply. I guess I’m just stupid or something. Apparently you think I posted without spending hours trying to find an answer to my question. It seems that rather than just getting snarky with a new member, perhaps a willingness to understand that not everyone has your experience and offer constructive commentary might be more appropriate. (In my kindest voice) If I had been able to find and understand the information I’m looking for, do you really think I would post this?

I also find searching for old posts on FitFreak to be hit or miss, so you're not alone there.
There are several important steps to fitting new wheels. Obviously you need the right bolt pattern and spacing, but just as important is the center bore size which for Honda is 56.1 mm. Smaller won't work (ask me how I know); larger will work with hub centric ring. This is mostly an issue with OEM wheels from different manufacturers (e.g., Toyota <56.1 mm). I think most aftermarket wheels have large center bores so that they fit most cars.
I would have sworn that the offset for the Fit Sport wheels (at least for my 2010) was 53 mm, but I'm not at home and could be remembering wrong.
Here's a good resource to visually compare different wheels/tire sizes to your stock setup (which is a known fit). If you take the additional measurements related to distances to the fender, suspension, etc. you can fine tune your fitment. Regardless, if I was going to buy new wheels I would insist on fitting one to my own car before making the purchase. So far I've only purchased old Civic alloys for snow wheels, but that's exactly what I did and the seller was fine with me doing that in his driveway.
Just reread the original message and realized that you have a 2012 base Fit, so my offset comment are irrelevant. Everything else is still hopefully useful to you.

OEM Civic wheels are always a good choice. I like those SE 15" wheels from a few generations back.
Do you have a style you like, or a purpose the wheels need to fulfill? Have you thought about sizes? 14" 15" 16"?
Thank you both for your time and comments. I found someone semi-local today who was quite knowledgeable about Honda and Acura wheels and tires. Turns out he has been in the business for about 30 years. He set me up with these 16 inch Insight wheels and some 90+ percent tread sweet Falkens. Pretty much exactly what I wanted. Refinished some curb rash with DA and paint, mounted balanced with the sensors and lug nuts. It all looks brand new!
Turns out after further research these wheels are…go figure. No wonder I liked em so much. The car handles much better as well although I feel a lot more “road noise”, just makes it feel sportier.
