Need New Tires

Hi All,

I am looking for my first set of new tires for my Fit Sport.
I have 64,000 miles and the OEM were ok, not great, but good enough. I am looking for a new set, rather quickly, and at a great value/cost price point.

I am finding that 195/55/15 is a little quirky in size at some wholesale shops.

I am looking for a set of 4. New or used.

I am also trying to see what alternative sizes might be OK.

Will this work reasonably well for a Fit?
Goodyear Integrity 185/65-15

I am a 70/30 highway/city to Boston Mon-Fri.

Any help will greatly be appreciated. I have read almost every thread here.Seems like a lot of us seek performance, I need value/price.
Too many kids in college at once!!!

Thanks.

Cheap tires? have you ever looked at Kumho? Those are quite affordable for the performance they give. Not the best but affordable.

For myself I don't like the second number to be too high. The higher you go the taller the tire, bigger tires=more power loss and softer ride. Also it tends to put your Speedometer out of sync with your actual mph. Here's a calculator Performance Probe

Hope any of this is helpful

check out the Khumo ASX, they're fantastic replacements for the stock tire (pretty much the same attitude except better handling and quieter)

if you're going to go with 195/65, I would suggest the Yokohama Avid H4S, I had them on a couple of my old civics and I love 'em. The only reason I got the Khumo tires is because they're direct replacements of the stock tires (i tend to load up my car to the ears with music gear and i didn't want to risk scraping the wheels on the wells with a taller tire.)

Anyway, Khumo ASX & Yokohama H4S = Great tires.

BTW - The Khumo Ecsta ASX are $65/ea & Yoko H4S are $73/ea at tirerack.com

discounttiredirect.com has really good prices. if you have the hook up on installing them, these prices are cheap. even if you get them installed at discount tire..they are still cheaper then the discount tire store prices.

i liked the hankook k106 for the price. they handle really well and in the rain they did pretty well.

bfg g sports were really nice for the driving..becuase they were quiet and to me they handle better then stocks. i hated the stock tires with a passion.

khumo spt 711 or the mx . are the only khumos ive have ever ran.

whatever you get the best price on. but i really liked the k106 for the price and the performance.

one more thing, if you want an idea of the difference in size, it's pretty easy:

195/55 would be 195*.55=107.25mm tall
195/60 would be 195*.60=117mm tall
195/65 would be 195*.65=126.75mm tall

basically, with the same tread width, the tires get ~10mm taller with every 5 you go up in the aspect ratio - 20mm is pretty considerable, perhaps you should also check out the Yokohama TRZ; they're 195/60 and they're only $63 on tire rack, they're also getting some pretty rave reviews.

covrc,

Goodyear Intergrity? No, you can do better than that Passenger All Season tire-
Goodyear Integrity
185/65-15 is too tall to fit, tire diameter is 24.4" about 1" taller than stock.
$67 each 460 treadwear

In 195/55-15
Ultra High Performance All Season tire
Falken Ziex Ze-912 $65 each
360 treadwear
Edge Racing - Item Details
Decently good performance, all season, longer wear and comfortable for street use. And good value.

At tirerack.com
In 195/55-15 for Ultra High Performance All Season tires
Kumho Ecsta ASX $65 each 420 treadwear
Sumitomo HTR+ $58 each 400 treadwear
Test results for both-
Testing Ultra High Performance All-Season Tires Without Ultra High Prices

i hated the ziex. its such a cheap tire. it wAs too much road noise for my likings, and the handling on those tires didnt really amaze me to much.

from reading it.. you do a lot of highway driving, so you might just wana go with the michelins 85k warranteed tires.

handling sucks but its just like the oem tires. and your garenteed the tires to last you longer then the rest of them.

Falken All Season tires are value oriented.
But Ze-912 is a new model to replace the Ze-512
Not really for best handling but is OK for street tire and for all Season use.

Yokohama S.Drive did not get a good review in recent issue of EVO magazine.

Costco Sport tires 195/55

Had some time today so got pricing on Sport tires.
195/55R15 H

For some reason all he could do was V rated

BF Goodrich Traction
$103/

Michelin Pilot Exalto
$123

BF Goodrich G force
$85

I bought tire mail order and it was a big hassle getting them balanced well.

For those that but tires at Costco for the Sport. What have you used?

imho v-rated should be more than plenty on a small light car like ours
unless you constantly track the car or let her loose in the canyons.

Goodyear Integrity 185/65-15 (24.46" vs 23.44"), a bit much for my liking).

185/65x15 tires are too big in diameter for a Fit in my opinion.

I'd pick 185/60x15's (23.74") if that size is readily available in your area and you don't want mail order. 175/65x15 (23.95") are another choice. Both discount tire (free shipping) and tire rack offer good prices and selection on both.

Good luck. Whatever tire you choose try to stay between 23.5 and 24" diameter. And maximize wear rating for longer life.
