Replaced steelies with OEM alloys

Here's a picture:

UPDATE 4/11 - drove home today and no TPMS light, total miles about 25 or so since I put them on so the sensors should have registered with or been rejected by the vehicle by now. I'll update if anything changes.

I put my new-to-me 15" OEM alloys (thanks Ash!!) on my base fit last night, here are my first impressions -

- Alloys heavier (duh!) by about 3-5 lbs per tire
- Road noise went up
- Handling much much better (another duh!)
- Greater tire weight makes suspension less 'twitchy', more 'heavy'
- Looks A WHOLE LOT BETTER - which was the original point

I know this upgrade isn't in the same league as those of you purchasing after market rims but the alloys look so much better than the hubcaps that I had to share.

I haven't had them on long enough to test out the self-registration theory of TPMS sensors but the light hasn't activated in the first 15 miles I've driven it. I should find out tonight on the drive home when I cross the alledged 23 mile point when the TPMS should light up if it doesn't detect the sensors. I suppose if the light goes out I'll have to drop the air in one of the tires just to see if it goes on. I'll post as I learn.

BTW, the steelies (including sensors, tires, wheel nuts, wheel locks) will be available for purchase once I get the TPMS thing worked out if anyone is interested. The tires have about 1.3K miles on them.

Congrads on your new wheel/tire setup!
I'm actually surprised that the new package is about 3-5lb heavier per corner. Being that its alloy, I would expect the weight to be similar, even if theres an increase in size. I remember lugging around steelies, they were HEAVY!

But I agree with the handling/ feel, the base model vs the sport, its like a totally different world!

yeah i think this too.

ive heard that the alloy wheels are ~18 lbs though

i think the OP is talking about the wheel/tire. because the stock is 14 inches in diameter and a bit skinnier. so it's a bigger rim, and wider tire

The alloys are 1/2" wider overall so I would expect them to be heavier even with the improved materials. I definitely noticed the difference when I lifted them off/on the vehicle. Now that I think about it, I had already removed the hubcap when I lifted the tires so maybe the difference is more on the 3 lb side total.

Yea, one poster weighed rims-only at 17.4 lbs. I chalk the difference up to the wider tires.

Uh-oh, self-registration of sensors to TPMS failed - my light just came on. I'm sure the tires are up to the right PSI, I filled them to 35 PSI last night. Anyone know how to reset the TPMS to try again? If not, I may try pulling the fuse or battery cable and see if they'll do it on the second try.

Otherwise, dealer here I come . . .

Correct-a-mundo. I went to the dealer and had them reset the system. No other way to do it. The local dealers all charge $100.

There wasn't an easy way to swap the TPMS from the steelies to the new alloys? I guess that's something that would have to be done with with the tires off, but other than that would it ahve been possible?

Yes, when I said "no other way" I meant no other way to reset the TPMS other than take it to the dealer.

You're right, I could have swapped the sensors out but not sure what that would have cost to do the swap and rebalance on both sets but might be a little less than what the dealer charged to register the new sensors. Also, I figured the wheels on both sets were ready to go so why mess with them. I sold the steelies as well and wanted to advertise them as untouched.
