i figure since i check my tp every month, and i visually inspect my car every so often.... i can go without tpms =]

what's the deal with rota slipstreams? are they cheap unreliable knockoffs?

the fit is my daily driver, so i'm not looking for professional stuff... but i don't want something that's going to break when i hit a pot hole...

 

Nope. They're knockoffs and they're cheap, but they're not unreliable.

It takes a serious impact to bend a Rota wheel, let alone make it shatter. I know this from experience. Manila roads are atrocious, but I haven't had any bending on my Rotas until I had a run-in with a runaway wheel chock snaking across the highway at 80 km/h.

In the end Slipstreams are just lightweight cast wheels that just so happen to be made by a company that isn't Desmond or Spoon. Just get what you want and don't let brand snobbery get in the way.

I'm saving up for RAYS Gram Lights 57Gs, but for now my Circuit 10s will take my abuse on road and track...so far they haven't failed.

 

Rota's are fine for daily driving although for 1500 you could get some NICE! wheels especially since the Fit uses such small wheels

 

$1500 is alot of money, just get something nice that you want. with that kind of money, don't settle for Rotas, get the real deal.

 

what would be some reputable brands to look at?

 

SSRs, Works, and Rays Engineering if you want nice motorsports wheels.

If you want weight and strength stick with the SSRs, if you want super wide offsets, and more VIP style, go with the works. Go with Rays if you are a brand whore (j/k, they make great wheels)

Go with enkeis if you want a cheaper, cast, lightweight wheel that can compete with the ROTAs and still be higher quality.

Here is my thoughts on TPMS, you are thinking about some expensive wheels!

I'm in a similar boat with my SSR's....If TPMS helps me catch a tire going flat before I ruined a wheel, that would be a good thing right? So that is what I did, swapped them over they fit perfectly.

Oh and you asked about mounting and balancing 4 tires, like $60-80 I would say.

 

Check them at least every two weeks if you want to go without TPMS.

Your life rests on four handprint-sized patches of rubber every time you drive...you'll want to keep those patches working well.

A month in between tire pressure checks is too long. A lot can happen in that time...a lot of air can leak out of a tire without you catching it. Better to catch steady slow leaks as they happen.
