Sizes other than 195/55R15

The selection of 195/55R15 is somewhat narrow.
Anyone have any info on fitting other sizes to the OEM Sport rim?

I don't have any experience with other sizes but I replaced my stock tires with Kumho Ecsta 4x at 195/55 and they are a great tire.

205/50/15 is gonna be the closest in terms of the orginal ratio of tire width to sidewall. You'll have a 5MM smaller sidewall with this setup over the original 195/55.

At 215 you'll have almost a full inch of tire protection on each side of the rim.

If you plan on lowering on stock rims it would be a good idea to stay with 195 for the most fender clearance.

J: you are correct in saying that the choices are limited. Have you seen the excellent reviews on the Firestone Precision Touring on tirerack.com? That is the tire I will be buying at the end of this year for our 195/55/15. Seems to be a great tire and the prices on line at several sites are cheap.

If you are sticking with 15" here's what we've installedhere:
205/50x15. a tad smaller diameter that makes up for the tire extra weight but doesn't really affect speedometer or odometer readings.
175/65x15 a tad greater diameter but less weight so speedomoter/odometer readings not really affected butowners have reported slight gain in mpg. One even claimsd higher top speed and he's probably right.
185/60x15 work too but do cause a little in mpg due to increased diameter and weight.
If you change wheels it opens a whole new marketplace. The others you list have been tried but without success due to increased acceleration times and less mpg as a result of heavy tire weight.
cheers and good luck. Consult tirerack for specs and buyer reviews..

Thanks

Thanks Mahout! That is exactly the info I was looking for. I am suprised that the 195/60 doesn't work. Specs are very close to 195/55

Help ! new to the forum. I have a 2009 Fit Sport. I want to switch tires and maybe wheels as well for improved handling and to have a more aggressive stance. Very confused on what tire / wheel combo to go with. Based on what ive seen here ... 205/55/16 would be good with a lighter aluminum wheel? or do i drop to 15" wheels?

205/50-16 on a light weight 16" wheel is a great choice. The 55's would be taller than stock.

Here's some reading for you...

Here's a great place to play around with different wheel/tire combos to see what it does. Watch out for the offset with your Fit. Many aftermarket wheels do not have enough offset.
