Center caps for steel wheels?

So I just added a new Fit to the roster, I got a 2018 Fit EX. I also picked up a snow tire/rim package from Tire Rack. With my 2007 Fit, the steel rims left the hub nut/end of half-axle/cotter pin exposed, which doesn't work very well in Ohio in our salty winters and they got rusty and ugly very fast. I know standard center caps don't work, because the steel rims fit flush around the hub, and there's no extra wheel for them to clip into. Has anyone got a solution for this? Do they make a small hub-cover for steel wheels that clips on from the outside? I've been searching through the forums but I haven't seen anything like I'm picturing in my head. Suggestions?

i painted the hub and nut semi-gloss black using duplicolor engine enamel paint when running tuner wheels on my older Fit's without center caps.

i just wire brushed the loose rust off, decreased well, and sprayed onto the metal without any primer. it stayed on for a very long time. you can buy this paint off the shelf at most auto parts stores and walmart.

I bought snow tires on steelies from Tire Rack as well this year. I picked up a set of old 1980's CRX center caps from eBay. Same reasons. Salty winters here in the midwest.

That's pretty much what I was looking for, do they clip on inside the hub? I was also thinking of hitting the whole thing with plasti-dip, but I wasn't sure how the vibration would affect it. Painting might be an option as well.

They have four fingers that pressure fit the inside of the wheel center bore. They are less than a centimeter deep. Search for them on eBay and you'll see what I mean.

At least with my 14" wheels, there is maybe a centimeter of available wheel real estate inside the bore before hitting the lip of the hub. If yours are indeed truly flush with the hub as you describe they might not fit. But they don't need much wheel to grab onto.

Have you checked out "auto dust cap" with an internet search? Some are very low profile and would paint very nicely. 13990 on the following link was for old Honda/Acura, so there's a chance...

I looked at the type CyclingFit linked. The Honda CRX ones in my pic are the same thing, just official Honda and much cooler looking. But that's all they are. Dust caps. You can always go to your local auto parts store. They should have some Dorman (or whatever) caps that fit and you can try them out in the parking lot.

Good points... what I left out was saying that as a former parts store manager, most customers don't know that there are 20+ options for these caps and sizes. They came on everything 40+ years ago. Most stores will have 2-3 common trailer sizes on their "help trees" in the showroom. So don't be afraid to measure an research.

These are pretty much exactly what I was originally searching for. I didn't know what they were called, I tried 'hub caps' 'hub covers' 'wheel center covers' I never thought to try dust caps, since I wasn't worried about dust, lol. Excellent, I'll have to measure and take a look.

Your hub bore is 56.1. I think the outside measurement is the same.
