Petition to Koni...

I'm eyeing the Tokico's now, but could put that off a while if Koni was serious about making a stock-dimension strut for us. I mean, they've already got a nice base in their 2816 and 2817 series racing strut cartridge, all they'd have to do is whip up some nifty perches, tack them down, and you're off to the races.
OK, so I have no idea what price that sucker is - probably $500/ea - but they DO say it's "affordable"...
C'mon, Koni, shox.com already has PN's for the Tokico HP's:
hb2261 hb2262 fronts he2991 rear (available soon)
I *LOVE* the single-adjustable QA1's in my Valiant SM car, so even SA shocks would be okey-dokey with me.

Just a little tap to keep checking interest. Pretty sure the price on the Tokico's is just a place holder, unless that's in Yen...
FWIW, I haven't found anything on Bilstein or KYB, either. I have a buddy that works for Bilstein, I'll try giving him a shout.

I'm looking into revalving a set of OEM shocks/struts with custom Koni inserts. There's a Koni factory-authorized shock rebuilder about an hour from where I live, and I asked them for a rough quote. But I'd much rather save some money and hassle and buy something off the shelf.

c_mack9, there aren't any GOOD ones out there, to my knowledge at least. Nothing I could find on KYB, Bilstein, or any of the other usual suspects. I think Tein is still all coil-over, and these KSport units are pretty, but not legal in SM, me thinks. Not cheap, either.
Skimmer, can you check on the cost of those generic inserts I'm dreaming about above? I'm sure the ballpark is pretty scary, but it's only for two. Find some more "normal" shocks for out back, I think. I'm 100% agreed on the OTC shock situation, as this is my daily driver, and I won't have a backup car until I get the EFI sorted a bit better on my Valiant. The QA1's I have on her are shelf-stock available from Summit or Jegs, so overnite shipping is possible if I REALLY had to have another one.

The only ones I know of are Spoon/Showa units available as a Japanese import from A-J Racing in Canada, a vendor on this forum. They quoted me $700 a set with a one-month delivery time, and they sell them already modified to work with the USDM unique swaybar mount setup. But I don't know anything about their handling/valving properties. The wait continues...

The shop that I contacted here in California about getting custom inserts for the OEM struts made an inquiry with Koni. This shop bills itself as 'the only factory authorized Koni service center in North America,' so they must have some connections. The word is that Koni plans to release shocks for the Fit, but probably not for 12 months. That's good news, but an awfully long time to wait.
The custom inserts, BTW, are probably gonna be too expensive for my budget. I was quoted about $1,400 just for the inserts, not including labor and incidental parts, which can't be estimated until they get an OEM strut to dissect and play with.
MPG -- Did you get any response to your inquiry?

Hey, Skimmer,
Is THIS the strut cartridge that your rebuilder was thinking about using? That's not too bad a price from Summit Racing, and it looks like it's probably a little better set up for modifying how we need them. I've got a buddy with a TIG welder... I need to get my hands on a spare set of Fit Struts for some measurements. And about $800 extra samoleans. I wonder how long it'll take for G-Dub's economic stimulus package cash to come in? That's about the right amount of money IF I can get my hands before my wife does... Buying race shocks stimulates the economy, doesn't it?
