Group Request: GE Carbon Fiber Trunk Hatch

Fueled by the success of JDP's vented hood...

We are now gauging for a CARBON FIBER TRUNK HATCH that would perfectly complement the JDP Vented Hood.

CF trunk hatch sample:

NOTE: the image above is just a representation of the trunk hatch.

Thank you and let the gauging interest begin!!!

As always, the cost to produce this will be shared amongst those who pony up the deposit...the more we get to commit the cheaper it will be.

People complain about the lack of aftermarket parts...but we are coming along pretty rapidly fellas. We have two CF hood styles, numerous spoiler styles, front lips, grills...

And soon aero mirrors...... and possibly a CF hatch if we can gather the support

as soon as the dust settles with the jdp vented hood and all have installed theirs... we might and hope to see the interest shoot up on this hatch

I'd like to see staff@WR join this group buy as well...as well as the guys at AJ-Racing. These guys have the coin to drop on go-fast parts like these....

Why are you even buzzing around the "gauge interest" forums? It's obvious you're not interested in any of the custom parts we've had made

Any ballpark figures on weight savings, maybe from someone with knowledge of how this typically goes for other hatchbacks?

I think the first thing to realize is that you're gonna have to give up your (useless) rear wiper. Nobody, that I'm aware of, has weighed the rear hatch....I'm guessing the weight will be reduced by half, maybe a little more depending on the amount of metal used in the OEM hatch. The tempered glass panel is surprisingly lightweight...so it really isn't worth looking into molded lexan ($$$$$$$).

We also have to decide as a group whether we want the spoiler molded into the hatch or if it should be left up to each individual to drill (or possibly just 3M tape?) and attach their own spoiler. Spoilers are such an individual/subjective choice...and the fact that there are so many different aftermarket ones to choose from...my vote is for the hatch molded w/o a spoiler.

I just weighed the custom JDP vented hood at the UPS store and it weighs 12.6 lbs. My guess on the stock hood is 20-25 lbs. Unfortunately, nobody with the JDP OEM style CF hood has weighed the metal OEM hood. If you know someone with the original JDP hood please ask the to weigh (digital scales with pic please!!) the metal OEM hood...
