My black Fit with black interior with no tint and 10 windows was brutal on hot days. In the garage it's fine but after sitting in an open parking lot all day at work it's like an oven. I am going to tint mine myself though, hopefully it's not to hard. I have seen it done, it looks pretty simple. Just tedious. I think I am going to do 20% all over since here in Indiana 30% is the limit on all windows but that is just to light for me so I will go for 20%.
For what it's worth, I have 20% on my Blue Fit and in the dead of summer up in New England it still bakes inside. The only thing worse than the Fit was the new Civics, I had 20% on my coupe with 6 windows all together, but that front windshield was HUGE.
I didn't do it because the company wanted to charge me an extra $50 for those two dinky windows. They said they would bring the total of tinting up to 9 windows and they disregard size.
i did mine..
i think it would look weird if you tint up all the windows in a dark percent and leave those clear. By dark i think 35% will be noticeable enough.
the first thing i did when i got mine was tint aswell. one of the local tint shops had already done 3 so they charged me next to nothing for my triangles to get tinted. i guess after you figure out how to do them its easy after that. i did 20% on all the backs, the triangles, and my banner. i had to keep it legal though on the driver and passenger side so they are 35%. still looks nice though. yeah there is way to much glass to not have them tinted all the way around.
just tinted my 08 MR sport this past weekend. i got 40% on all the side windows, 35% on the hatch, and a 5" wide 5% band on the top of the front windshield. here in Delaware, they'll bust you hard for tint, and force you to take it off, and the fines add up to alot of money, so i decided on 40% because cops usually don't give ppl with 40% and lighter tint a hard time, but when you start getting into like 35% and darker, then they'll bust your a**!!! even out of staters, if your ever in DE, watch out, cause they're not afraid to pull you al over either. i also dislike the way cars look when the front side windows are lighter then then the back ones, and so i did all the sides 40%, which works well here in the mid-atlantic region. will post a pic or two when i get some uploaded to a free picture hosting site.
Tints have come a long way in technology. I'm currently Llumars CTX 50 Film. Its a ceramic tint that blocks out the heat, without overly darkening like a cheaper film. The ride during the summer was much more comfortable. The AC wasnt cranking even in 100 degree weather.
Props, most people just go dark/no name brand, and ask about what % to buy.
I had the same llumar film on my last lexus. it even came with a slight gun metal ish/chrome appearance to it.... NOT BLACK ... gave the car a damn classy look to it. I even went as far as doing the front windshield with llumar air film, so worth the money!
I loved the idea of uv and heat rejection, but not screwing up light transmission/letting in light so its easier for driver visibility (and huge bonus = you dont attract unwanted attn from so cal cops). To this day, I always think people who go "limo" tint should really reconsider their approach. Its tacky (imo), and kills visibility.
Lol.. I saw this under recent posts for some reason and I didn't even notice the date.
But as it should, new owners should know that tints have changed dramatically if they ever decide to do their research here on the forums. So much good stuff out there now.
