20% is 20%. Smoke is just a color as apposed to bronze. "Smoked" 20% isn't darker than "normal" 20%. In fact, none of that makes any sense at all. If it's 20% then it blocks 80% of all visible light and only allows 20% of visible light to transmit through. Period. Using these terms like "smoked" and "normal" don't mean anything.

As I said, "smoke" is the word used to describe the color of the tint as in it is charcoal, gray, or smoke in color. It has nothing at all to do with how dark it is. And you don't get your windows "smoked" at all. The tint is a film applied to the interior of the glass.

If two people both have 20% and one looks darker than another, it has more to do with the size, shape and angle of the glass, the color of the interior and any factory embedded tint that was already in the glass than anything else.

And to the guy who was making no sense at all with "matching the hatch": the black band around the glass in the rear quarters is a ceramic layer bordering the inside of the glass. To match that would involve painting the windows with black spray paint, which on a car is not legal in any state.

yeah i wasnt saying it blocks anymore light...was just saying it appears to be darker because of the color of the tint...thats all(guess i should have said that the "smoked" is a color and not some sort of smoking tool used on it or anything...sorry), thats why i said 20% sorry if im not making sense, its the first car ive ever got tinted. im noob. when i said smoked i strictly meant "smoked" as the color of tint that i got, and that is all.

btw gj on the tint thread you did, lots of good info there.

300 posts! woo.

I got my windows tinted today (35% Johnson, thanks, azncarbos) and after driving about 3 hours in the scorching sun, I accidentally rolled 'em down and then immediately rolled 'em back up. After I parked I checked all the windows and I don't see any visible damage... The only thing that could go wrong is the tint coming off from rolling my windows, right? Does the tint get all scratched up getting rolled? The sun hit my windows for 3 hours and I'm pretty sure they're on good but still worried...

Hmmmm, maybe I'm about to get ripped off. I was quoted nearly $300.00 to do 20/35%.

Wow, expensive. My friend got his car done for $80. Mine was $100 but I paid 120 because I was nice to my friend.

If you read the thread in my sig about tint, you will see that the $300 quote you got may be what the market can bear in Boston.

Each market has different prices for tint. A $100 job in Los Angeles may be a $400 in Boston.

Yup here there's 3 shops that do tint/are marketed to do tint. 2 of em car shops(tintmasters and sound decision) and an electronics store. SD ='s $260 for a fit regardless tint % - TintMasters ='s $250 I think regardless tint % and iono the other shop. SD uses llumar and TintMasters uses 3m. Both have lifetime warranty lol. Sucks that fronts in ND can only be 50%(legally), sorta throws off what I wanted but o well.

Most of the time you get what you pay for. Color and % is only part of the cost. I had my Fit done with top grade ceramics tint. I don't use the metalics anymore. Sorry if I jumped in where I should not have. I read Fitfreak often but this is the first time i have attempted a reply.
