Np i decided to do this when I was looking into tint for my car. I tried to do one with springs but never had enough time to look through the forums and find pics with different springs and then contact people.

Looks nice. Probably a little easier to see out your front windows at night. That is another reason I go with the ceramics as I can go darker and still see out better, day or night.

I just went to the California Vehicle Code on-line and found one of the frequently asked questions is about window tinting. Here is the answer:

Can I put after-market tinting on the windows of my vehicle?
The main requirements for legal window tinting in California are:
  1. The windshield and front driver's side and passenger's side windows cannot receive any aftermarket tinting.
  2. If the rear window of a vehicle is tinted, the vehicle must have outside rearview mirrors on both sides.
The law prohibits any person from driving any motor vehicle with any object or material placed, displayed, installed, affixed, or applied upon the windshield or side or rear windows, with certain limited exceptions.
However, legislation signed into law effective January 1, 1999, exempts from the above prohibition specified clear, colorless, and transparent material that is installed, affixed, or applied to the front driver and passenger side windows for the specific purpose of reducing ultraviolet rays. If, as, or when this material becomes torn, bubbled or otherwise worn, it must be removed or replaced.

So for those of you who live in Cali, you might want to think twice about after-market window tinting, unless you want a ticket!

Do you still like your tint darkness? This is exactly what I'm thinking of doing?

V.C. Section 26708 - Material Obstructing or Reducing Driver’s View

70% front drivers/passenger side windows
rears (any windows behind the driver) can be any tint as long as you have rear view mirrors mounted on the outside of your car....

Help--i have an off the wall window tinting question

This is my first post so please forgive me if I'm doing it wrong but I was trying to find a thread regarding a tinting question on the new '09 model and the closest I could find was an '08 tinting thread so hopefully you can help me.

I own an '09 Silver Sport MT and would like to have the windows tinted but my state won't alow me to go darker than 35% on the drivers/passengers windows which is fine but here's my dilema.

When calling around for estimates, I keep getting told that there is already a "factory tint" on those windows possibly up to 9% which I'd have to take into account with how dark I can go on the front two windows and still be above my states 35% minimum so my million dollar questions is:

How do I find out what if any the factory tint percentage on my '09 Fit is? Any feedback on this subject you could give me would really be appreciated.

Thank you!

Should be 8% in yours, as it is in mine. Any good shop can tell you from looking at the glass. Your local police department may be able to check the windows for you, or the vehicle inspection facility might be able to do it.

Easy way to figure this out is:
Total amount of light (100) - Amount of factory tint ( 8) * Amount of aftermarket tint (?)

We come up with (100 - 08) * x = 35

You can either solve for x, or use guess and check methods.

Car window tint is rarely made in numbers like 42.5, so you'll need to put on 45% to stay under the 35 limit in your state. Many tinting shops won't put any darker than 45% in cars because they know it will probably be illegal after the factory tinted glass. If a place doesn't at least advise you about this, I would think twice about giving them my business.

The EPA classifies the Fit as a "Compact Station Wagon" which means it's a MPV, and thus elgible for darker than car tint in most states. You can try to use that to your advantage, however I didn't bother. I'd just stay with what's legal.

Hope this helps.

Sorry, I didn't know this thread was still alive.

I love the tint darkness. I don't like the super dark non-transparent look. I pass by Police cars all the time and they leave me alone even with the 50% in front. Wouldn't do it any other way.

Not a problem.

Here the police tend to get bored, and pull people over for JUST too-dark tint. It's normally easy to tell whose tint is too dark, even by a glance. I watched a cop stand outside in a parking lot next to a car with 5% on it, waiting for the owner to come back out of the grocery store.

That's the main reason I went with 35% on only the rear 5 windows. That, and the fact that I could be going back to Germany, and I didn't want to have to remove the tint when I got there. Besides, I dig the mini-van look.
