Just wanted to share with people I took the fit to Tahoe this weekend, and it actually ripped up i80 at 75mph no prob, with 4 people, full of gear, and 4 boards on the yakima rack. The paddle shifters worked really well, and got 240 miles on 8.5 gallons on the way up, and on the way back it was over 180 by the half tank mark. Not too shabby, and no wind noise. Only problem, I had to take bindings off two boards because bindings hit the roof.

Didn't have to use the low pro z chains, FIT FTMFW for snow and cargo!

4 adults, gear, and 4 boards. damn! day trip or overnight gear?

 

It was a weekend thing, 4 people, 2 guys me and my bro, both 200lb range, two girls, both 120-130 range, full snow gear for all of us plus extras, and a jumpbox/aircompressor/light/power supply. And 4 full snowboards, but 2 of the boards bindings had to go in a backpack. We stayed at the Squaw Valley Lodge. My brand new bindings broke before the 1st run, I had some extra bolts so I could ride for the day. My gf bruised her tailbone, my bro got a concussion and severely sprained wrist, then turned into an asshole, and the other girl rode allright.

I got SCC z chains for a STEAL deal, like half price. And then I didn't have to use it. I boarded in a tshirt and thermal all day. There was still comfort room in the car

you are right down kingsbury grade. Just sayin it worked well as a tahoe car. You have snow tires or chains for when it gets super snowy? theres been like NO snow this year

pretty sweet. i haven't been up this year. prob head up presidents weekend (as well as all of the bay area). i plan on taking the fit and prob need to buy the chains. i may take 3 people and fold down so i don't need to buy a rack.

 

I have chains, but I have never used them. Out of all the years I've lived here, I have only used chains once. Allweather tires work pretty good if you drive accordingly to weather patterns. Snow tires are good too, but there's no money right now.

 

my old hyundai made it through blizzards with mud + snows no problem, all about planning momentum and lots of e-bake tail drags.

The fit would be fine folded down for 3. Shoulda took pics with all the gear but we wasted no time getting to drinking and boarding

made another trip up this weekend, test fitted the chains since it was storming, and if you have a lowered fit, chains are f'n ridiculous. Better not need to turn or go over 5mph. Whenever I get some more $$$ I will switch to coil overs so I can lift it up for a weekend trip and drop it back down afterwards.

But it was yet another 4 person, BEYOND fully loaded, for 4 days this time, to the point it was loaded to the roof in the rear, and there was stuff in the middle of the back seat. You really couldn't fit any more crap INTO the car. The fit chugged along even in a CRAZY rain/sleet/snow storm and at one point we had like 5 feet of visibility on the freeway. If it was at stock height it would have done even better I think.

My friend has an '08 sport manual, that thing seems to do better loaded down with all of us piled into it than it does empty!

 

It does feel really well planted with it super loaded of crap. It still got decent mileage. Makes a good lil snow car, not enough HP to break traction, and the center of gravity is low

 

Im going saturday, first time in the Fit.

If you need chains you are f'd. My H&R drop is only like 1.5 inches, and it barely clears chains going in a straight line. If it is storming this weekend, you may as well save the effort or rent an SUV for the weekend. Or my old trick, throw on a set of shitty chains, and as soon as you are out of sight of the chain checkpoint, get out and take them off. I used to do it all the time. In a FWD you get plenty of traction. But yea, you would be snowplowing it

 

Dang dude.. Maybe this weekend ill take my moms car up there. I know they are getting pounded with snow all week.

 

Road Conditions

thats the caltrans site that lists chain controls. The snow has been intermittent so the roads are still clear. Just check that before you go
