NA Honda Fit Locking Gas Cap

I just purchased one. Now, how do I install it? How do I remove the stock one, since its connected to the inside compartment with the little rope attachment thing that keeps it from dropping?

It is just held in with a plastic clip.

Got it installed. The thing holding the old gas cap to the gas door is a clip similar to the bodyclips holding the bumper to the body. You have to use the tip of a small flat head screwdriver to lift the inner cap and just pull it straight up.

BTW, looks like any Honda Fit key can open the gas cap:

Isn't this a bad thing? Defeats the purpose of a locking gas cap kinda isn't it?

fad3r...know anyone else with a FIT to confirm if their key can open the gas cap as well? Also which gas cap is this? Which site did you buy it from? Thanks

I got my gas cap from the dealer. Its basically the same locking gas cap from the Honda Element. Either way it kinda defeats the purpose of having a locking gas cap if any Honda Fit/Element owner can open the damn thing! Oh well, its better than nothing I guess.

I got a locking gas cap from the dealer but the ignition/door key to my Fit definitely DOES NOT fit the lock on the gas cap.

It's not any key, that person specifically got the cap rekeyed to fit his ignition key. That video was done to prove that rekeying could be done.

You are correct. I emailed the poster and tried it myself, but my key doesn't work. Sorry if I scared anyone.

that locking cap looks like pain in the ass. not to mention during the life of the vehicle how many scratches you get from your keys scraping the paint.

Yeah the video looked awful. I can imagine how scratched up the area around the gas cap will look like in 5 years.

I think we're better off with a separate key and put it somewhere in the car when not needed.

somebody needs to pimp smack that guy, i could not imagine doing that to my car. somebody could steal his gas about 10 times and it still wouldnt be as much as repainting around the gas cap.

But then again after thinking about it. its not just good against someone stealing you gas but what about vandals that put sugar in your tank...

I paid $20 to have a locksmith rekey the gas cap, here in Las Vegas.
