Fit the Spare
Fit the Spare
I did some measuring of the spare wheel and the reg. 14" Fit wheel. I also
measured a 13" wheel from my 82 Celebrity.
21"---small spare
24.5"-13" (P185/80R13 BF Goodrich)
22"---Fit 14"
When I put the 13" wheel in the spare well it fit but I had to yank it out, tight fit. So if you want to know if a wheel will fit in the well, anything
around 24.5" diameter will go in but not sure if the cover will close.
I took some pictures to compare the Celeb wheel to the reg. 14" Fit.

b4 I think about new wheels.
No, I didn't bother checking the cover as the 13" would not be going in there and I wasn't going to remove a 14" wheel to check. All that would be needed would be rubber spacers like the foam ones at the front of the cover to raise the gap.
Someone had asked earlier if a reg. tire would fit in the spare wheel well.
All:
While I had the impact wrench out rotating tires on the Camry, I took a wheel off of the Fit. No, you cannot put a full size tire in the well, it will fit in the hole, but the cover will not go flat.
Bummer, as I wanted to get another steel wheel and "play" with a Nokian i3 tire as a spare, to see if they were worth it for when the Dunlops wear out.

It will sit flat if you just add shims to the btm. of the cover or add them to the sides of the trunk.
It's so easy it's ridiculous.

OK? Gotta ask, how do you get around the two side bits that are not part of the lid, and also, when you fold the seats flat, then the same deal....
My seats are flat quite often, being a long time wagon owner....going back to a highly modified '66 Volvo Amazon

Has anyone successfully added a 15" full sized tire with original rim into their spare compartment; while resolving the issue of the trunk lid being raised. Also the issue of the lid fabric being connected to the rear seats? I think you might have to cut the fabric so you can raise the lid properly.
I guess the solution for the gap that you make once you cut the fabric would the the luggage mat, but I'm not sure how well it would fit altogether.
I'm planning to do this myself and wondering if anyone has any suggestion on foam type. I want to be able to keep the lid sturdy enough so it stays flat and doesn't buckle when you put things on the side. I don't mind it being raised.
Here's a link to the luggage mat.

Thanks for any info.
