The other day I hit a deer carcass on the interstate in Kansas (I 70) traveling about 75 mph. The splash shield under the engine is damaged and now loose and flapping. What's the best way to get it replaced? Should I take it to a Honda dealer or could a body shop replace it?

 

honda dealer will be the quickest i think.

or you can get under there yourself and just remove it entirely. some folks on the forum dont even run it any more.

 

It's a plastic part with if I remember correctly held on by 8 wimpy screws and two clips. You probably just ripped the screws out?

 

You can easily remove or replace this yourself, assuming you have some little ramps to put the car on. But getting a new one to you can be a pain: They don't cost a ton, but they are a large thing to ship.

 

It needs to be examined to see to see if it's just a mounting hardware issue (replacing screws ...) or if the shield is actually damaged and has to be replaced. Honda dealer best for this.

 

My dealership keeps these things in stock because they break so often.

 

Mine got ripped off, and the mounting areas got ripped out. I just haven't replaced it. Shrug. When I looked online they were over $100, so I said screw it and tore it off when I got frustrated with some of the clips.

Makes it easier to do the oil change!

 

 

I just posted about mine breaking too. My dealer quoted $450 for the part and $300 labor. Uhhhh...no! I'll probably end up living without it since it will always be compromised whenever I get an oil change...unless I start doing them myself. Mine came off (the first time) without hitting anything.

 

First week I owned my 2015 Fit was going 65MPH bumper to bumper in Houston and
ran over a fat tire in the middle of the highway. After being under there quite a bit since
I can tell you it saved a major repair...it survived amazingly well given the fact that
I ran over a FISH this afternoon and the car rides so low it sounded like a cannon.

It's the gators I worry about...they roll.

I mean REAL gators...aside from hogs they're the worst thing to hit in these parts...people invest in bumper contraptions that look like cow catchers on trains to avoid such. The fish was actually a FISH...it was about 3 feet long and had a giant toothy head like a fat gar. Someone had dumped a bunch of them and the vultures were moving them around. I was shocked the Fit wouldn't even clear it.

I have no regret hanging mine up after the first oil change. Car has 23K miles now.

That's beautiful. The one time I let someone change my oil on a Celica
it was an oil-change-chain. Never saw the shroud again. Never thought to
look under there as they drove it out. Wonder if they have it on a wall too.
There are so many cable-ties on my abused Fit's undercarriage it would take
Houdini to run off with it.

 

I did a post on using zip ties and their locations.
Zip ties are reliable, inexpensive and easy to install. I have had none break as yet.

 

Very nice schematic. I can't tell you exactly where mine are, but I leave them
on during oil changes and bend the shroud back. I admire your work...perhaps you
could call me the Red Green of Texas.

 

I used zip ties in 4 of the "metal screw" holes. other than the front 2, I somehow managed to lose the other 4. does anyone know where to buy those 4 metal screws for a decent price? most sites sell the screws for cheap but rape on shipping =\

 

Am I the only one who uses duct tape as reinforcement?
