it was designed for the japanese and european market. they didn't give any consideration to US styling expectations. many cars in Japan look like that.
We got a couple posts about the 2020 Fit already and can probably be merged.
With that said, I like the 3rd gen (BIASED!) and 2nd Gen Fits. This 2020 takes homage of the 1st gen, but then it got punched in the face and the nose got caved in.
No reason to worry about the new Fit or its styling. It won't be sold in North America. Honda this is a stupid move. I kind of like the new one, looks kinda Jazzy.
The Fit crosstar is really growing on me... Have you guys seen the one with the white interior, damn. They really nailed the interior design on the new fit, if nothing else.
We went to our Honda dealer today to get some work done and chatted with the salesman. According to him:
1. It will be available with a petrol engine instead of hybrid in Japan at least
2. The styling is an attempt to woo back young female buyers who have more or less deserted the GK Fit
The female buyers thing makes a little sense ... especially in japan where they have a much more defined male female split culture. American ladies, as a general rule, are put off by being pandered to by overly cute car design. Make a practical, safe, not bad looking and well priced car and you can sell it in boatloads to any gendered person - honestly only a small portion of people care about car design much beyond that.
And by the way I kind of like the design. Not the blue base model but the other ones look ok. Not sure about the “fit ness” model. Who is that for- personal trainers? I’m more into fitn’ness pizza into my mouth.

Yes. Thinking about it Honda may be right as far as Japan and the far east more broadly is concerned. Kawaii is a powerful force here with both men and women. A lot of younger women are quite driven in their purchasing decisions by prettiness - they simply don't want things in their life that aren't pretty. Given that women have a lot of power when it comes to large purchase decisions and given the Fit is the class of car people might buy when starting out as a young married couple, it makes sense to soften the styling a bit and take away the sharp angles in order to enhance its appeal to young women. Hopefully, if they start out with a Honda they will trade up to bigger and better Hondas as they get older and wealthier.
I think quite a lot of people in Asia and Europe do care what a car looks like when deciding to buy. They aren't fanatical about about car design but looks are an important factor. More so than technical details I would say for most people. Perhaps the American market has diverged somewhat - it's quite possible. Bigger, more powerful, less electric and more aggressively styled cars might be the winners in that market.

Well hairdressers have the miata, guess personal trainers need their own lifestyle vehicle as well
