RUMOR MILL: USDM Fit line to be dropped after 2020 MY

Not sure how trustworthy the site is, but it's not out of line with other rumors about the 4th-gen Fit (and the subcompact US market in general.)
Confirmed: U.S. market Honda Fit to be dropped after current model year | Subcompact Culture - The small car blog

*insert innumerable grains of salt here*

We have all heard the same thing, but I believe it will change. The new Fits available in Japan are quite exciting to read about. Lots of things change...just think about the Corona Virus, and the number of the things around the world that are changing rapidly. Maybe Americans will wake up and realize that good mileage and a reliable car
is something they need and like.

Here is the quote from the Japanese: For 2020, the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) Honda Fit will launch with a traditional gasoline powertrain and a new two-motor hybrid system under Honda's recently announced "Honda E" hybrid strategy.

Doubtful. Gas is cheap and crossovers sell with higher profit margins. The Fit's best sales years were 2008 and 2009. The combined sales for 2018 and 2019 were less than 2008 alone. The HR-V sold more in 2015-2019 than the Fit did in in the same period (402k vs 229k) and currently sells almost 3 times as many (99k vs 35k for 2019) The corporate bean-counters know when a model is no longer financially feasible in a particular market.

They could do what they did with the GK initial release. Japan got it in 2014, US got it in 2015. So US may get the new fit in 2021?

Small cars don't sell and with how great the new Civic is the Fit has a more limited market.

No surprise. Cheap gasoline and an American overwhelming preference now for large SUVs has killed the Fit and many other smaller cars from other manufacturers.

That is just some random online car blog spreading false news and is not at all credible. Funny how they say it's confirmed yet Honda has said nothing about that specificlly. Anywhere.

I hate to say it, but I think the Fit could be discontinued.
Honda IMO has never supported the Fit with great fervor, and I think Honda would rather sell you a Civic or a HRV.
I hope I'm wrong.

this model isn’t for the us, but gives you a good idea where we’re headed. Unless Honda just stops at the Hrv. But Hyundai seems to see room for something below the Kona..

Alex on Autos mentions an expected upcoming Honda Fit hybrid in his recent “How does it work? Honda 2 motor hybrid system explained!” See the 20 second mark of the video. To me he seems to be referring to a US release as I am sure he is aware the Fit hybrid has already released in Japan.

My educated guess is the 3rd generation Fit ends with this model year and the US gets the 4th gen Fit this fall/winter. Less educated guess - 2021 US fits are hybrid and cvt only, no manual shift. Wild guess - 4th gen Fits will be imported from Japan for a while.

It'll be ok. Just like the corona virus, crossovers will too be beaten someday. The fit will live on! lol
