Drove through quite a bit of water tonight...
Hi all,
So tonight in Newport Beach, CA I drove my 07 Honda Fit Sport through about 12-16 inches of water (probably not my smartest move...). It's a manual and surprisingly I didn't stall out. I did notice some sputtering and loss of power as I was driving out, but I managed to get back home (~10 miles) and the car drove like normal by the time I was back to my apartment. I was worried about hydrolocking the car after reading some more on the internet and this forum, but since the car kept running so I think I am in the clear of that issue and I didn't think much of it. I've already tried restarting it about an hour after I got home and it started no problem. Are there any more precautions I should take? As far as I can tell, my air box and the filter are dry. My oil also appears brown (no milky white substance indicating water). Just in case, I'll probably go get the oil changed in the coming day or two (after the holiday). Any other suggestions on what I should check and/or things I should get done to the car? I'll also wash it.
Thanks all!
Ryan

Check trans fluid level and for water. Another very common item is for brake calipers to get water in them and rust. If in the next month or two you start to experience brake puliing or overheating, check the caliper outer seals and maybe the pistons for water or rust.
The airbox intake is right about at the honda logo. I'm not certain how far off the ground that is- but i suspect at least 2 feet. I had a CAI in my lancer and it used to pull water from heavy rain and trip the o2 sensor when it did. I imagine if you're not throwing any engine cades yet, you should be ok from hydro locking perspective. Though it cant hurt to change the oil just incase.
