Italian Fits?!

Well, OK. Sort of.

One of the relatively unknown advantages of owning two Fits; one white, the other red: With green garage doors, one can make an Italian flag!

Yes, who knew? Of course, yes, I also know; who cares?

Well, I do. It’s another way to celebrate Moto Guzzi’s 100th anniversary!

It’s a big deal at the Moto Grappa at the top of Virginia, to wit:

Now, for both of you who care — tho my number may be optimistic, see, e.g. …

, and more.

As the saying goes, “no need to thank me; it’s simply a service I provide.”

Buon Anniversario!

Well, I have a white Fit and a green garage door, so I'm 2/3 of the way there.

It is quite clear that we and other white & red Fitsters have exemplary taste in automobiles and their livery.

I recommend that you join "The Club" with domoMKIV and me.

In the meantime, you can still have an Italian Fit ... from Lombardy.

We are on our monthly "eldercare" mission in Erie, Pa. Even with our experience with the '09, we continue to be impressed with the load-carrying capacity of Fits. Here's what ours looked like on arrival as we rearranged the cargo to accommodate more "stuff" and Kathi's dad! 'Mazing.

Oh, as long as I am here, stopped at the Cranberry, Pa., Costco on the way here. Parked next to a red '16. Chatted with the owner. Showed her how to raise her seat.

One last thing. Headed to Bianchi's -- the Erie Honda dealer -- this afternoon to have them install mudguards.

The helo-blade tape works well enough -- especially on the front bumper -- but Kathi liked the looks of the OEM, so that is that. Was going to buy the parts and install myself, but after reading the instructions and thought about cutting, the "chickenered" I got. Dirty Harry was right.

Well, sigh, the red Fit is no more.

An expletive-deleted turned left in front of my wife in Erie, Pa., on 14 December. Thanks to modern cars’ crumple zones, seatbelts, and airbags, Kathi and her friend are fine. Our beloved Fit is not, as it was DOA at the scene, towed, and totaled.

It now sits in a Copart lot in Buffalo, N.Y., in line for cannibalization or shredding or whatever fate awaits.

Requiescat in Pace.

The USAA adjustor came up with $17K. We had paid $20K 35 months ago! Still would rather have the Fit back.

The settlement helped pay for the Fit's replacement, a 2024 CR-V hybrid -- red, of course -- but, again, while the CR-V is a fine machine, we'd rather have the Fit.

We still have the '09, with its <280K miles. It has snow tires on it for the season. Used it last night to "plow" the driveway with multiple passes. It is also a tow vehicle for a motorcycle trailer. [Yes, I've read all the towing threads here; no issues whatever with common-sense towing].

And, the 2020 Fit is second to the '09 in at least two categories: driver's leg room and more cupholders than a jumbo jet!

If Honda brings the Fit back to the NA market, we'll likely get another. What a stupendous machine.
