how semi auto paddle shifters work?

how semi auto paddle shifters work?

i was driving my car and i shift into sport and it still acts like its on auto until i press the paddles then the m light comes on. is this normal or is it suppose to come on when i shift into sport?

That's normal , it's a safety thing. Just giving you more opitions when behind the wheel. (feel like sport's car F-1 racing )

The owner's manual says that to drive with the paddles, you need to click one of the paddles as soon as you shift into Sport mode, otherwise it will act as a normal automatic transmission, presumably with different shift points.

Kind of. You have to be going VERY fast for it to come out of third gear.
