2012 Honda Fit Sport - mysteriously stalling (resolved!)
Hey all,
Just wanted to share a quick story about my father and his Fit stalling on him (more like powering down momentarily). He was experiencing a mysterious stall out on occasion. It was fairly random ... could happen on straight-a-ways, corners, etc. It was like the car snoozed for a second and then woke back up. He took it into the local Honda dealership and they proceeded to not really give a clear problem / resolve, but also said we'll take $1,200 for a bunch of random "things" they reco'd (as they do). Nope. He then took his Fit to another independent repair shop. They decided, with some hooey about an amp meter showing low numbers while turning, he needed a new $900 alternator. Again, nope. Fortunately, enter an automotive electrician (friend of a friend in the biz). He punched up some info on his computer, found info on the Honda Fits, and quickly shared there is a built-in safety kill switch that shuts off power when the brake and gas are simultaneously pushed. In summary, never drive with TWO FEET! One foot only, that is either on the gas or brake or neither (if coasting). This may not be the fix for any/all Fit stalls, but thought it worth mentioning as something to rule out in the process. Cheers.
