Hey all. Newbie here. What is this greasy/ oily stuff on the bottom of my transmission? Also, what is the black part? It has dark greasy dirt (I guess) coming out the edges. Is this something to worry about?? I did wipe a lot of it but you can still see the streaks where it was shiny. And yes, I had a shop tighten the magnetic bolt already, so no red fluid leaking.
Probably not the answer you are looking for but that looks pretty clean to me. Some seepage is almost a given on a car that old. I would guess engine oil that has picked up road dust. I would monitor the fluid levels as usual and not worry about it too much unless you need to top something up or you see it dripping on the ground.
Yeah, for a 15 year old car with 170K miles that looks good. But, you said you wiped a lot off so we have no idea what it looked like before. It doesn't take much oil or transmission fluid to attract dirt and look horrible.
The black plate is an inspection panel covering the flywheel (and clutch if you have a M/T) area. It's possible that a leak from the "rear" of the engine or "front" of transmission could show up there.
I just casting marks on the transmission. Not cracks. Every Honda has them, new and old.
Nor do I see any oil leaks. Use some brake clean and clean the area. If it's really leaking fresh oil will come back. But I don't see any major problem there.
Yeah. I would think that the stuff that looks like Australia on a globe is just casting marks. A by-product per se of the casting process. If you were really into removing it, you could probably grind, sand and polish that to a high shine and those marks wouldn't be there. But no one would do that so, it's fine.
