Dynamat vs Siless vs Made In China

hi,

I've just finished sound proofing all 4 doors of my Fit. And have some observations that might be helpful.

NB My opinions expressed below are from my very own personal experiences of using Dynamat, Siless & a similar product Made In China.

Dynamat was the most expensive of the 3. It was also the hardest to install. Mostly because of it's ability to stick to anything & everything. This includes it's own backing paper . Which made it very difficult to use in temperatures around 20 celsius. I am very disappointed that in this age of hi-tech, the manufacturer doesn't use a better backing. It is also the softest of the 3 products. Dynamat usually only partly separated from it’s backing paper whenever I tried . Which made using larger or longer pieces challenging.

Siless & Made In China are in my experience are about equal. In both usability & quality. Both can easily be separated from their backing paper, cut to size & installed, with the same roller. They are both harder than Dynamat, yet still pliable enough to fit around sharp corners. Because I bought Made In China locally, it cost about the same as importing Siless, without any associated delivery delays. Noting that I live in New Zealand. I ordered Siless from Amazon Australia, which are currently offering free shipping for every purchase over $60. Interestingly ordering from amazon.com.AU, meant that this order was shipped from the USA. I had to wait well over a week for the order to be dispatched. After which it only took another week to arrive.

Whilst I can’t comment on Dynamat’s soundproofing properties. Based on my highly un-scientific testing, Siless & Made In China both seem almost identical, to my ears. I used Made In China on the rear doors & Siless on the front doors. Covering the inside of the door skin & the metal panel, under the door card. Both door cards also received some extra soundproofing material.

Interesting that the most important trait for the sound deadening isn't in question, it's the backing paper? I used dynomat last year w/o issue.

Just to clarify that you aren't sound proofing with this material, you are mass loading and sound deadening.
