Have you done a coolant drain+refill or flush?
My 2016 Fit is at 71,300. I thought doing a coolant flush is good idea base off what I have read. My Honda dealership in town has on their website that they offer a coolant flush service but when I called to schedule, they called it a drain and fill. Further questioning, they told me, flushing is not recommended for Honda. Does your dealership says the same thing?
I check the user manual for guidance and just like a lack of information for other services, the manual does not mention anything about flushing unless a different coolant was used. My dealership won't even do a flush so no way am I getting a flush from there. I'm pretty frustrated reading about maintenance. Almost every articles say to refer to the user manual which I do and find nothing. Am I just not looking at the right place in the manual?
This is the notice from the user manual:
If Honda antifreeze/coolant is not available, you may
use another major brand non-silicate coolant as a
temporary replacement. Check that it is a high quality
coolant recommended for aluminum engines.
Continued use of any non-Honda coolant can result
in corrosion, causing the cooling system to
malfunction or fail. Have the cooling system flushed
and refilled with Honda antifreeze/coolant as soon as
possible.
Do not add rust inhibitors or other additives to your
vehicle’s coolant system. They may not be compatible
with the coolant or with the engine components.
If temperatures consistently below -22°F (-30°C) are
expected, the coolant mixture should be changed to
a higher concentration. Consult a dealer for more
Reserve Tank information.
