Removing Sport Kit
Removing Sport Kit
Hey folks,
I know this has been talked about briefly in the past, but none of the information seemed very concrete.
I think I want to remove the sport body kit pieces from my Fit so it resembles a base model. I think the base model looks simpler and more discreet.
My fit is on order and will be built in just a few days, so I can't inspect the car myself. If anyone knows, what is holding the kit pieces on?
I've heard it is industrial double sided tape with a few screws/bolts. My questions are:
-Has any one done this?
-Does the adhesive remove paint from the body when the pieces are removed?
-IS there paint on the body underneath the kit pieces?
-How many screws are there and what is there diameter?
Hope someone has some knowledge or experience on this front.
Love the forum!

I scraped the front lip on my Fit Sport on a curb not long after I bought the car, so I ordered a new lip and replaced it myself.
There are four 10mm bolts that attach the lip to the bumper. There are holes for these bolts in the bumper skin because they go through the bumper skin and attach to blind nuts on brackets on the lip.
Also, the metal brackets on the lip have tabs for screws that attach the brackets to the lip itself. The bumper skin has holes for these tabs to go through because the tabs are long enough that they'd press on the bumper otherwise. These holes are approximately 1.5 inches square. Two of the brackets on the lip have these tabs, so there are two corresponding holes in the bumper for them.
There was no tape holding the front lip on. It was held on by the 10mm bolts only. This means that even the front lip leaves at least six holes in the bumper, however. It wouldn't be terrible, but it would be obvious that you have a Sport with the lip removed.
A while ago, I also considered removing the rear upper spoiler on the hatch to mount a bike rack. I didn't actually do it, but I looked at parts diagrams at Honda Parts and Honda Accessories from Bernardi Parts. The Sport rear hatch itself has holes for the spoiler, and the base rear hatch does not. Honda lists two different part numbers for the rear hatches. Given this, I did not remove the rear upper spoiler. The holes in the hatch would be noticeable, and they would likely fill with dirt and water.
