Question about Fit motor type
Question about Fit motor type
Okay, I am long time lurker and now I have a question. I have a 2009 that I have been driving for a while and its starting to consume oil. Doesn't seem like its burning it up real bad but I do know that it will be time to do a swap before too long. So here is my question: Which motor is actually in there as I know its a slightly different animal from doing the work on it for other things. The second part is which other motors are a direct bolt up option if I end up going that direction? Thank you in advance!
I wouldn't immediately jump to the conclusion that you need a new engine.
1) Are you sure you're burning oil and not leaking?
2) What is your rate of oil loss? Some folks here have noted that there Fit consumes a (consistent) small amount of oil over long periods of time and many miles without the problem getting worse.
As far as engines swaps go, I'm no expert but it makes sense that the easiest/cheapest option is to use the same engine currently in the Fit. For starters, you know it will fit (ha) without any issues. There are many used options available from junkyards/scrapyards. Note that there are minor engine differences (oil pan, other?) between A/T and M/T cars.

I ordinarily would not jump to this conclusion but I don’t have any leaks and once a month I am dropping a quart into her power plant. I am under that car for project work pretty often and there are never any leaks or oil spots on the ground underneath. Plus the exhaust tip that I have is supposed to be shiny and it’s covered with dark soot. When I got this car it was used and I have found a lot of “home fixes” done to it so there is no telling what was added to the motor as far as additives to the oil or if the correct oil was used consistently. So I figured since I am pretty good with tools and am an automation mechanic and engineer and I have been doing cars for a long time, that I would dip my hands into this thing and get it done. Also depending on the motor will depend on what I do to the new motor before it goes in.
Some folks have swapped Honda K24 engines into their Fits.... Probably makes it a pretty quick little car. But honestly, you could probably keep driving it as-is for years to come on your current engine. Some cars just burn a little oil, especially as they get more and more into high miles. It's probably fine.
