Getting fit for the Fit
Getting fit for the Fit
I hope everyone is having a decent start to their new years. Now that we’re past the month of resolutions, I thought I’d share this to keep people going…
I got my Fit a year or so before Covid and don’t know about you, but I’ve gained a bit of unwanted weight since then.
In the meantime I’ve seen lots of posts about shaving car weight, and I’ve made parts wishlists sometimes with weight savings in mind. I got lighter weight wheels (unsprung weight, of course) and immediately noticed a difference. As we all know, a little bit can go a long way compared to higher horsepower cars.
So instead of that expensive part to save you X lbs/kg, why not save money and lose that weight for free?
I figured I’d start a thread if anyone wanted motivation. My goal will be to be down 20 lbs. What about you?

@GE8tl Hey, tl. Welcome to our little clam bake. You'll come to know me as the guy who is always saying crazy things like "It's about power-to-weight" and "For get about power mods. Save your money. Make the car lighter." Maybe we have something in common.
Lighter wheels and saving unsprung weight is a great idea. Did you save enough weight to have an impact on the suspension? In other words, do you now have to modify your struts, shocks and springs? I'm thinking probably not on a Fit, but on a performance car it might be a consideration.
Happy trails, amigo, and go easy on the Valentine's Day chocolates. They are performance killers.

I appreciate your approach. In a relatively light car like Fit, it's difficult to shave weigth any big amounts. At least without loosing capabilities like the rear seat. Wheels and tires have probably the biggest potential. Even up to 60 lbs. And of course it's essential to keep car empty from unnecessary load like tools or spares. Even the original battery is so small, that it is not feasible to go any smaller. One quite obvious thing is to keep the fuel tank at max half full.
I'm looking forward to read new ideas.
