Losing weight to under 2000#

I tow my base 2012 Fit behind my motorhome. Most states have no brake requirements for vehicles being towed weighing under 3000# but a few have a 2000# limitation. I was wondering if I removed my spare tire, had a minimum amount of fuel in the tank and possibly took out the rear seats that I could make it to 2000#. Stats I find indicate that the curb weight stock should be about 2500#. I wondered if perhaps someone out there has had experience removing weight? Thanks for any thoughts.

You'll be hard pressed to eliminate 1/5 of the weight of any car, even if you completely gut the interior and remove everything but the driver's seat, at which point you probably won't enjoy driving the car anymore.

Using round numbers, the back seat is about 29 + 38 = 67 lbs
10 gallons of gas is around 64 lbs.
The donut spare tire is around 22 lbs.

That puts you around 150 lbs, leaving a long way to go.

A 2012 Honda Fit stock weight is 2,617 pounds. For the heaviest trim model

You will never safely drop that much weight and still be able to use the car like planned. In fact not many new age cars are going to fall under 2,000 pounds as the cars safety is much more important than weight loss. For that kind of weight savings you will need an older vintage Honda. Like a 1980's CRX or Civic. And even if you dropped it to 2,000 pounds you are still maxed out on your motor homes towing limits. Which will always lead to premature parts failures and other heavy wear on your vehicle.

I would come up with a better plan.
