2010 Sport - keep and fix or go larger?

My husband and I are in our 70’s. We have a 2010 Fit Sport that needs a good overhaul, new tires, 2 recall issues, a few minor tweaks, and a good detailing.

We want to travel when early spring hits, and are debating whether to keep the fit and put the money into that, or go larger to a Honda van. My husband is in a wheelchair, so I’d like to get a swivel seat installed into the front passenger side. We don’t really want a wheelchair van.

I think we could get a swivel seat for the Fit also, but haven’t looked into it.

Gas would be less with the Fit of course. We’re also looking at the Honda Prologue or Odyssey.

Thoughts? Comments? Opinions? TIA!

Wheel Chair Friendly Honda.

For ease and convenience you may have to get a wheel chair van. A Honda Odyssey will be best.

If your husband can transition from the wheel chair to the front passenger seat a Honda Odyssey is a best choice.

Thats why I’d like to have a swivel seat for disabled installed, so he can transfer from his wheelchair to passenger seat, instead of being in back. The seat comes outside of the van, he sits, then it goes back inside with him in it.

Yes, I do think a van would be better, just hard to part with the Fit.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure how you would have enough room for that sort of mechanism given the floor design (e.g., gas tank underneath front seats so you can't alter the floor) and door opening size of the Fit.

Keep the Fit for yourself for girl's night out.

I'd suggest you speak with the companies mounting swivel mechanisms. They will tell you if it is possible or not. If it can be mounted into a Fit, then no reason to change the car.

True, those are things I hadn’t thought of.

I’ll do that, thanks for the suggestion.

this is what I would do. If that is an option, I don’t see the sense in buying a much more expensive vehicle.

That doesn't sound like a "good overhaul" to me. It just sounds like easy stuff. Tires (and an alignment) will have to be done at a shop. The only "hard part" for you is picking a shop that you like. Same is true of the recalls. As an old guy myself, I would not consider selling for those reasons.

I am sorry that I cannot comment on the swivel seat issue.

P.S. By the way, I think the '09-'13 Fits are the best ones that they made. A clean example will be valuable to a knowledgeable buyer or owner.
