Sad goodbye?

After 15 years of ownership, I am getting a new vehicle. Ford Maverick Hybrid.

I have nearly 170,000 miles on my Fit. I purchased it new in 2010. I bought the base model. Over the years, thanks to this forum, I have preformed a few upgrades. Nearly right away I added remote keys to lock/unlock the doors. I also did the intermittent wiper stalk upgrade. I love that one. I added a trailer hitch and 4-pin connector. I also added a set of wires to run a small winch. Using a quick connect, I can hook up my utility trailer and use the winch to pull up my lawn tractor. I use this most weekends in the summer to help my family with mowing. Additionally, because someone said it would help, I replaced the radio antenna with one from a Toyota Matrix. It did not help. The factory radio still sucks for me.

When I bought the car, I knew that road noise was an issue. I paid $200 for the dealership to spray two coats of under body sealer to reduce that noise. It didn't help and caused real issues with rust. You see, water will always find a way in. Once in, it has a hard time getting out. This caused my wheel arches to rot out from the inside. This was my biggest mistake.

Engine works great. I change the oil about every 7500 miles when the car tells me it's ready. New oil, new filter. I change the cabin filter and engine filter regularly. Only recently I've seen what I think is fluid weeping. Not leaking per se. No drips. I would guess, based on locations, that the rear main seal is weeping and maybe an end seal on the transmission (Manual 5-sp).

I had the air bag recalls and had to have a new engine mount installed. About 100k the engine mount broke and cracked the timing belt cover. The factory covered about 60% of that repair. I also had the dealership do the 100k mile service. All that was my biggest single expenditure.

So I'm waiting for my new car to be ready and then I'll start cleaning the Fit. I hope to get $1k for it but I'll look into that more once I'm ready to put it on the market.

My son still has a 2010 Fit and my brother inherited my Dad's 2013 Fit. All really like the car. If they were still selling them in the US, I'd have looked at getting a new one.

So this may be my farewell post and I mean to say "Thank you" to every one who contributes to these pages. This has been a great place to see other's experiences and ideas to make the Fit that much better.

Undercoating.

Sounds great in theory.
But undercoating helps retain and hold water further damaging the under carriage of a car.

Never ever get an undercoat for your car.

Hey man I bet it’s hard to lose that car it seems like it’s given you lots of hard ships but also a lot of good times. My mom bought a 2015 Honda fit exl new and she kept it 10 years just for me. I just got my license and I love that egg of a car all ready haha. The fit is a special car to me and I can’t wait to build it and sure your journey with it might be done for now, just know another journey with the fit has begun.

@Chitown Fit I was recently following a 2003 Honda Civic Si Hatchback at auction. The undercarriage was completely coated and spookily clean. I just couldn't trust it.

@AirborneRATT Good luck, Rat. Let us know how it goes with your next car.
