Daylight savings saves energy? Think again
Daylight savings saves energy? Think again
Think daylight saving time saves energy? Think again. Or not. - AutoblogGreen
This is a veerrry thorough article on how DST might do the opposite. It's not what you'd think.
Statistics shows people go out more, shop more, leave the house more, and therefore drive more, during DST days. The petroleum industry knows this. Golf club manufacturers know this. Ball park owners know this. Even holloween industry knows this! The more DST days, the more people drive and do stuff with those sunnier hours.
On an intesting note, there are eight daylight savings time, and only 4 "standard" months. It's odd how there are more exceptional months than standard.
So despite less light bulbs or furnaces being turned on in household, more energy in the form of gasoline (or even fancy lighting) are used outside. Note at the end of the article, the research is still ongoing, and it gets a lot of funding to perform that research.

supposedly if there is more sunlight longer in the day, you less likely use ur household light and electricity (or fireplace? i heard it was invented by ben franklin)
Its a bunch of crock, Household energies used only equal at most 8% of total energy produced in a given time. The rest is manufacturing plants and business. Plants don't run based on sunrises and sunsets so I don't see why this is a benefiting idea. Not to mention what the article says that there is 4 more weeks of more driving time during the day.
