Question Synthetic Oil and mileage....

Hi all, wondering if anyone has been running synthetic oil, and perhaps Royal Purple. I'm closing in on my first oil change, right now at 4400 miles. Been getting 32 mpg, with about 90% city driving.

I have heard that certain synthetics can boost mpg, but wondering if anyone has tried it in the Fit. Love the car, btw.

Regards

currently i'm using royal purple the fit loves it i have also used it in my past 2 toyotas. Also i got a chance to visit royal purlpe and see first hand how great of a product they make. It really holds up and can prolong your oil change interval. My past 2000 solara i went every 7-9k miles before changing and the oil would still be pretty clean i highly recommend royal purple

RoyalPurple is good, i like MObil1 more but it's also more expensive. I woudl recommend NOT changing to FULL synthetic untill you get past approx. 10,000KM (roughly...8500miles????)

Smile Thanks guys!

Thanks for the replies! I have heard that you should really let the motor break in before switching to synthetics so I'll probably wait until after the first oil change.

Have you guys seen any improvement in mileage and have you switched to the royal purple tranny fluid?

Thanks again!

what is honda's policy on synthetic oil changes as it pertains to the car's warranty?

let me clarify: some car companies still demand that the car get the oil changes at the required intervals, regardless if the car is running synthetic.
this would make running synthetic quite a bit more expensive (unless you do the changes yourself)

i am a believer in synthetic's.....the Oil Life meter on the Fit WILL NOT take into consideration that you are running a longer life oil such as a full synthetic but your motor will be better lubricated in between intervals and you can probably run it down to 15% every time before changes. im about to change over to synthetic this weekend (did first 2 with normal oil)

im actually using Castrol Syntec (i too loved Royal Purple in my Miata's but castrol is just easier to come by and cheaper at wal-mart) and ive ran castrol in all my hondas and cant complain

good luck with the royal purple. you wont be dissapointed.

i'm getting about 30 mpg using royal purple. i drive with a heavy foot. On the bottle it says it last up to 12k miles so i gues when oil life on the fit says 15 or whatever percent you usually change your oil in, just reset the oil meter.

Won't that ruin the timing on all the other "maintenance minder" items?

why would it hurt the other minders? the owners manual states to do an oil change at 15% anways....or 12 months. when you reset it itll post the letter/number combo you need to do in terms of maintenance. the longer you wait the more youll have to do thats all.....

rotate tires, filter, check hoses and fluids....thats usually all it is anyways just a check and fill deal (dont know why honda charges 200+ to CHECK and TOP OFF!!!) but yeah. nothing big.

What do you mean by full synthetic?

I am at 20% for the oil change indicator @ over 8000 km. I am getting its first oil change soon, maybe when it goes down to 15%. Which motor oil is good for the Fit? I am going back to the dealer to get the oil change, so I don't know which motor oil they will use, or should I buy my own?

some synthetic oils are part synthetic, and others are "full synthetic"

any motor oil is good really, as long as it is SAE certified (or whatever it was called). what's more important than brand of oil/fluids is the frequency with which you change it. and what's more important than the quality of the oil, is the weight/specifications of it. but i use royal purple because it makes me feel good haha.

after the first free oil change at the dealer, im going to run Mobil1 silver
cap on mine with the factory filter/washer.

i hear the latest M1's are no longer true synthetics...but it'll work for
me.
